Let me put it this way. The number of people in dire need who wouldn't qualify via means testing FAR EXCEEDS the number of rich people who would get a universal income.

I don't think you guys have thought through this long enough to realize there is no way of accurately "means testing" to determine who needs assistance and who doesn't. If you did, you'd understand. I'm sure Pelosi and Schumer understand but their priorities are in a different place.

Understand that just because only one person on this site is saying something doesn't mean they are the only person saying it. "You guys" is probably millions of people in that case.

[Edited on March 19, 2020 at 4:53 PM. Reason : would be easier to understand if you focused more on what is being said than who is saying it.]

I still contend that Earl saying "you guys" and then acting like he meant the general public makes him a dumbshit

rwoody is spot on here and it has been a problem for four years with some people on the left projecting their views onto Trump and saying he’s “to the left” of X or Y Democrat. It’s never true and it’s counterproductive to the progressive movement at large.

Bottom line is Pelosi and Schumer deserve every critique they get. But they aren’t being outflanked from the left by the likes of Tom fucking Cotton.

Trump will campaign to the left on many issues, I'm sure. Of course they'll all be lies - but no one cares about that on the right. On the left, Biden's record will catch up to him and people will lose enthusiasm.

Its not like everyone has a static position. There are tons of issues each with their own spectrum. Everyone knows Pelosi is left on almost every social issue and the GOP is right on mostly every social issue. We are talking about this particular issue right now. Nothing else. Pelosi is conservative on this and the entire GOP isn't to her left. Its only some of them.

I'm glad to see Maxine Waters stepping up. I have criticized her a bit in the past but will give credit where credit is due. She just wrote a HEROIC call to action to her colleagues.

I’ve talked some shit about Schumer but if he stays strong in this (I know, I know...) this is more like what is needed. So I fully expect him to make some deal where McConnell can confirm 1,234 judges for a 3-day weekend instead.

That is still awful. What about contractors, 1099ers, self-employed, tipped workers, seasonal workers?.... all get left out.

And then you have Schiff acknowledging this but working to extend benefits to people like this who are in SAG-AFTA, ie only looking out for entertainment workers who fall through the cracks because thats his district.

The reality is, these people are so out of touch and have lived outside the real world for so long that they may not be aware of how many people they are about to leave out. All because Nancy demands means testing.

Anyone still following the Andrew Gillum story? Police say he was inebriated and let him go without incident, he then checked himself into rehab for a drinking problem and depression.

Candace Owens in all her conspiracy-theorist glory tweeted that he was passed out naked and that the party was a meth-induced gay orgy.

Then yesterday the Daily Mail (tabloid sensationalist publication) published a picture of a black man passed out over a puddle of vomit claiming that it was Gillum, but no one else has been able to prove or disprove that it's him.

I can't find any information about this other than alt-right conservatives and James Woods sharing the Daily Mail pictures. Real or tabloid hoax?

Sanders would absolutely be a better choice than Biden. Same with Warren.

But can you stupid fucks please watch Trump speak once? He is as senile and incoherent as Biden. He got slaughtered in every single debate against Clinton and still won. Debates don’t mean shit in a general.

I talk fast too. Vote for me.

I don’t know. He seems fine most of the time but the bad times are REALLY bad and it’s not the stuttering. Same with Trump, tbh. He can speak like a human mostly and then he’ll have weird ass slurs and neurological ticks that make you wonder if he short-circuited.

Basically both of them are what the media thought Clinton was health-wise in 2016.

So you watched all the debates and think his poor performance in them was due to his stutter?

Dude would totally forget what he was saying and look down. Repeatedly. Really a bad look. And he clearly didn't want the spotlight on him as he didn't use all his time...the strategy involved there is clearly at play now with him doing weekly appearances while Trump is out there every day taking questions and talking to America

He's been decent in the debates. He's a terrible orator compared to many of the other candidates, but it's not like he's just up there slurring.

His 1v1 with Sanders was honestly pretty good. Sanders called covid-19 'ebola' a few times, but who cares?

Again, I'd rather not vote for anyone in their 70s, but I don't buy into the whole 'BIDEN HAS DEMENTIA' , I think that's coming from bernie bros, IRA, or trumpers

Trump is better at debates than all of them. He has the ability to think on his feet and drop in little one liner insults that definitely land amongst viewers who aren't very informed (americans). The way he has the propensity to jump in and interrupt someone is anything but senile. Remember "because you'd be in jail"? Even though it was inappropriate, it was perfectly timed and came after a long series of him talking over her by commenting hits onto her entire response.
https://youtu.be/Irw956jPLOA?t=58
Pay attention to physical delivery. The way he stands over her and uses hand gestures. Then stick around for all of his interruptions. Its almost like he was adlibbing her entire response. Absolutely dominant.

With that said, Hillary was a much better professional speaker than all of them and we saw how that doesn't correlate to debates because Trump breaks all the rules and flips the debate structure upside down.

[Edited on April 7, 2020 at 9:28 PM. Reason : bernie is also bad at debates. not biden bad but worse than most of the candidates were this year]

It’s ironic that Earl actually treats politics exactly like the media he hate-consumes more than any person I’ve ever tangentially come into contact with. That entire post was pure media-driven horse race crap.

I wouldn't go that far, but in 2016 at least he was way more mentally agile on the debate stage than what we're seeing from Biden so far in 2020.

Trump is a better performer than the people he goes up against, which counts for a lot in debates. But he's not "agile" in the way you're painting him. He only has one schtick, and I don't think it's one that was carefully prepared or anything; it's just how he is. The problem is that it's a new schtick to the politicians he's gone up against, and they haven't been able to adapt. So nobody's flexible, but Trump has the advantage of being novel.

Honestly it shouldn't be that hard to counter. All it takes is for someone to be aggressive in both their logic and their delivery. Hillary could manage the first but not the second. I remember groaning at her giving a fake laugh and saying, "The fact checkers are going to be busy tonight." Nobody gives a shit about your fact checkers! Just call him a goddamn liar! Don't be civil, don't dance around it, use the word "liar" often and angrily and if you have to get into a shouting match, fine.

This is one area in which Biden gives me a sliver (if only a sliver) of hope. If his memory holds so that he can retain his arguments, I have some faith in his ability to deliver them right.

2016 Biden (which was sharper no doubt) facetiously said he’d punch Trump in the face or something and the media collectively clutched their pearls. I have little doubt if a Democrat actually punched back at Trump they’d lose their shit over it.

Calling Trump mentally agile is a complete joke, though. As ^ pointed out. He’s always, for 40 years, been a one trick pony. But he used to be a lot more coherent. Night and day stuff in interviews.

Can we be a little more clear on something?

Trump is not better at debates or debating.

He is a sleazy piece of shit who disregards the rules of debates (and everything else) and is not called out on it( just like everything else).

Cheating at something does not make you better at it. It makes you an asshole, and it's society's job to shun assholes. but instead we elect them to office and watch the batchelor and cheer for barry bonds and carolina fans exist

But when I went to retrace that it turns out I was wrong and conflated the deplorables media outrage with Biden.

Ok, fair, but I'm going to quote them because they're exceptional

Quote :
"John Kerry: "We really need a President like Jack Kenney or Ronald Reagan who would sit there and say the buck does stop here.""

Quote :
"Cuomo was just asked what he'd say to people who are upset that because they can't work, they are out of money and the government isn't helping them fast enough. He said that they should go get a job as an essential worker.

The reporter said that people aren't hiring and he said "sure they are."

The context was about the protesters, and the reporter did a great job of framing the question in a way that it applied to everyone suffering economically whose needs were not being met by the state."

That's kind of the fire with fire approach. Honestly, I am sick of this hateful and divisive rhetoric that Trump has inspired amongst the people. Trump wins as a president because he can cut people off and then go on a rant. He never really polled that well against the debates at all against Hillary, and he owes a large percentage of his victory to the FBI announcement.

I am by no means an expert in debate prep, but I have personally found that shoving facts in the face of people that are ignorantly ranting is a good strategy.
