Yeah but it was just a dream, so that's not true. I think you need to check your facts because the whole thing just sounds like a ClassicMixup to me

I wasn't aware that it needing solving. Anyone who didn't get it by the end of the movie must not have been paying attention at all.

i was reading about lucid dreams and it said to check your watch throughout the day

Quote :
"Looking at text or one's digital watch (remembering the words or the time), looking away, and looking back. The text or time will probably have changed randomly and radically at the second glance or contain strange letters and characters. (Analog watches do not usually change in dreams, while text and digital watches have a great tendency to do so.)[34] A digital watch or clock may feature strange characters or the numbers all out of order."

Anyway, I ended up just having a dream about checking my watch. Maybe I did it wrong or something.

When it comes to dreams, one of the things that really stands out to me personally more than anything else

is the vast array of resolution of the dream quality I have (if that's even the word)

sometimes the dreams are in HD surround theatre, and sometimes the dreams are on grandma's 1950s kitchen TV

no consistency in the resolution

time is definitely messed up though, you go from doing one thing in one place to another just like you think about one thing and then change to thinking about something else when you are awake

it's only in a lucid dream that you have any sense of time

i saw that one on IMDB.

I am 100% sold by that theory and accept it to be true. I have yet to see any kind of evidence to prove it wrong.

GG to the person who made that post.

I tried really hard not to laugh in the theatre when they announced the "DREAM WITHIN A DREAM" concept into the story.

I am sorry, but that's hilarious and was really really contrived. Really Inception?

I don't think it was that much of a mind bending thriller. If you think about it, they had so much freedom to do whatever they wanted in the movie, that it was more like a puzzle with training wheels and any illogical conclusions were chalked up to either
1) freedom of the "mind intrusion" technology sci-fi answer
2) ability to create the scenario and explain the existence of the phenom because "it's just a dream"

way too much freedom, kind of like drawing a comic book where the superhero has infinite powers. There's no story there.

"dream within a dream" isn't as far fetched as "dream sharing"

i mean, they were just connected by IVs in their arms - yet they were able to interact with each other inside the dream? ok

I read an interview with Christopher Nolan, who noted that while the ending was open to interpretation by the viewer, he had a concrete perspective in his head when writing it in order to make the ending more authentic.

And to pre-emptively estop the haters from saying that there were certain restrictions placed on the protagonists, a timescale abiding by some ill-thought logarithmic function whereas an hour is a minute, and a minute is a second and so forth so forth is COMPLETELY contrived because they created a hard metric on something as fluid as subjective thought process shared among various subjects.
Contriving a time exchange rule in relation to each "layer of dreaming" and then restricting to only three layers whereas a fourth would only induce a comatose state is also kind of arbitrary.

The whole movie was wrought with randomly placed strictly defined parameters on something incredibly abstract.

That's the whole point.

At no point was there ever a suspension of disbelief. They tried to apply the rules of logic to challenge you to solve a movie that was completely illogical.

Therefore it's solvable in their own little way in which the director clearly doesn't even really entirely know the answer to.

They wanted you to feel like you'd just been faced with a a solvable mystery that you weren't smart enough to figure out.

When in fact, it was just an arbitrary string of "make-believe tape" rules that never really amounted to anything.

but I like the solution of displacing the ownership of the totem at the end of the movie because it's as much of a cop-out bitchy way to escape from a real solution as any other artistic mode in the movie

Inception, like most movies, is probably better while drunk.

Do you think there's a vast conspiracy at work just to keep Americans drunk all the time to make life better? Or maybe just Hollywood turds better

goodnight

I am on board with the idea that Cobb was the target for inception the whole time. I just can't figure out if Mal was a real person IRL or not. I caught on to the greek Ariadne reference right away and it made me think that the Michael Caine character was the one who wanted the inception to happen to Cobb in the first place and the whole Saito/Fischer plot was just a ruse. Ariadne (personally chosen by Caine) was actually the one planting the original idea in Cobb's head to abandon the fantasy of Mal and come back to the real world.

Plus, if limbo was empty space that gets filled by the dreamer, how did Saito and Fischer end up in Cobb's already populated limbo? They were in Cobb's dream the entire time.

^^

I don't think Inception and Primer can be compared. Inception was like a visual, dreamlike experience to be had whereas Primer was a mind-bending low budget time travel thing that you have to watch a couple times.

Inception is kind of like being in a dream because you can enjoy it while you are watching it and then you go back and analyze it and it seems stupid.

I was never all that confused by this movie, and I thought they did a pretty good job of explaining everything that was going on.

They mentioned that when you die in a dream, you go to limbo. An empty space until you populate it. But when Saito (and Fischer) died, they went to Cobb's already populated limbo from when he was there with Mal. How did this happen?

pretty sure when Cobb wakes up lying on the beach its because he managed to somehow survive the Titanic disaster and swim to shore

It's an entertaining movie, but really falls apart with subsequent viewings.

I felt the same way about The Dark Knight.

I've seen it twice and loved it both times.

I couldn't find any additional plot holes that I didn't see the first time. The biggest being the one in the picture, why the kids don't just come to France to be with their father. Although it's possible that the grandmother has custody and doesn't want to send them to be with (who she believes is) a murderer.
