i've got a basic home network with only two hardwired computers: a 32-bit XP pro box and my 64-bit windows 7 pro box
the XP box has a single folder shared so that i can move files to and from it (right-click, properties, sharing tab, share this folder and allow users to edit files boxes checked) and it's been working great for over a year...then, the other day, it just quit working
there were no updates installed on either box before the last time i transferred files and the error, so i don't think that's it...neither had been restarted, both still have network and internet access and the windows 7 box can see and read the XP shared folder on the network...it just won't let me copy OR move files to or from the shared folder
it seems like it's something simple, but i don't know what it would be...googling keeps giving me instructions on how to set up sharing on a network (something i've obviously already done, but i tried doing it again to see if that fixed it and nothing)
suggestions? 4/19/2011 2:07:02 PM |

hardwired to each other or through a router?
Quick Checks- Disable firewalls see if theres any change. Try to connect by IP as well as hostname (check for DNS issues). Check permisions on the shared folder. 4/19/2011 2:11:18 PM |

it has to do with the domains.
it's a real pain in the ass, wait ti'll you want to share a win7 local printer to a xp pc through the network.
I can't remember what i did but i think turning the firewalls off and shit worked ok. I had to do some crazy dos prompt USB to IP maps. 4/20/2011 2:21:57 PM |
