Apparently HBO airing the pilot after Boardwalk this week is just a sneak preview type of deal, the show will officially premiere on January 29th. I'm pretty psyched for it, it's been way too long since a David Milch show has been on the air.

I thought it was pretty strong right out of the gate, and it had as good a collection of wrinkly old actors as you'll find anywhere. The combination of Michael Mann's visual flair and the Milch-ean dialogue and offbeat characters really worked well. The preview of the rest of the season looks awesome as well (Michael Gambon plotting aginst Dustin Hoffman on a yacht? yes plz)

I finally watched the pilot last night and overall I enjoyed it, but it probably will not be a gripping HBO drama that I plan my Sunday nights around. But I really enjoyed the ensemble cast and the overall tone.

the scenes with the horses racing do nothing for me.

horse racing in general does nothing for me.

i think horses are stupid.

hopefully this show gives its audience more than horse drama pronto.

hoffman is ok so far. dennis farina and nick nolte are garbage. Farina made that goofy ass comment after winning $200(and has made similar stupid/goofy comments in the past), and Nolte basically has dementia. i like the actor that plays the guy with the oxygen tank but i don't care for his character in this. same for the guy that stutters like a mug. I feel like its kind of like the movie crash, how you have a few stories intertwined, but in this case the nucleus is horse racing and just not that compelling.

Tried watching the second episode yesterday. I turned it off after 30 mins. It's just boring. The characters do nothing for me. I don't have any interest in horse racing. This show just feels so out of place on HBO. Will not watch again.

i was definitely into the show. horse racing isn't something i'm into or anything, but i didn't let that stop me from enjoying the show...although i am into gambling and that's what horse racing is all about.

the 4 amigos were were compelling characters. the growing war between hoffman and gambon was also pretty compelling. i enjoyed the filmaking too...some really beautiful scenes and i really enjoyed their use of music.
