Woot It's back!

On a related note I wasn't in the contest commercial! Doh.... I could use a few more votes since the one from WV is whooping everyone! Maybe I'll make it in for next episode.

I am really trying to like the whole "the Doctor is dead" thing. I mean whating the Doctor's death unfold out of order would really be such a cool idea if you could believe for more than 1 second the Doctor might be killed off.

But can you really believe that? I don't know if I can.

I don't know if I can. I feel like this is a mystery story where I already know the twist-ending (the Doctor is miraculously saved!) and now I just sitting through a very slow reveal of how DW skirted death one-more-time.

Hopefully, this story arch won't dominate the entire season. Maybe Amy will kill the Astronaut, save the Doctor, and save us from a season of boredom????

^ All that being said, I just want to say I am still psyched about the show!

The premiere was totally enjoyable, the Silence creatures are scary as hell, and even though I am annoyed by the whole "Doctor is dead" thing, I really REALLY want to see how the hell it turns out.

nice episode.

raises a lot of questions for me though.

#1. why does rory still remember being a plastic centurion? i thought that never happened after the doctor restarted the universe w/big-bang 2.

#2. does the fact that amy sees a "silent" in 2011 imply that the rebellion against them wasn't successful (or at least still waging 40 years later).

#3. I guess all this implies there was a huge amount of missing time? After all, Amy couldn't have the baby in only 3 months. Plus, she would have had to have had the baby before 1969. And as far as we know, the Silence cannot travel in time. So I am wondering the logistics for how all this happened. Moffat will of course unravel it with time and i cant wait.

Also, this is a week old now, but i thought this was cool.

"The only water in the forest is the river."

Sounds like an obvious reference to River Song, who was many episodes including "Forest of the Dead".

Wonder where that'll go, or if it's a continuity thing.

New episode was awesome. Good to see them run around a little more of the TARDIS interior and reference some of it's capabilities (the archiving, etc). Wasn't expecting the old console room to be Tennant's though!

the doctor's wife was pretty good.

i agree the tardis' last words seemed like an obvious ref to river song. not sure how it will work in future story line though.

Thus far this hasn't been my favorite season (though the Rory + Amy = River thing was cool), but i am looking forward to seeing how things progress.

^ haha yah, that seems to be a running joke on the show. Earlier this season someone on twitter screamed "Stop killing Rory or I will come after you with a pitch fork" and head-writer Steve Moffat responded "You'll have to pull the pitch fork out of Rory's cold dead body first." I laughed (exchanges like that almost make we want to sign up for twitter...almost).

That being said, I am not a huge fan of making Rory into the Kenny of Doctor Who.

Something like 35 or 36 I think, depending on if you count the year of David Tennant movies as a season or the actual Doctor Who movie.

I can't wait for Season 6.5 to start up. I've been catching up on Torchwood: Miracle Day and goddammit I want something a little more lighthearted.

Of course, this season probably isn't going to be one for lighthearted episodes. Although if James Corden's character is back for an episode then that'll probably be as lighthearted as they get.

^ yah, last season was much more fun I think. But I guess it is just part of the cycle the series seems to have been following since it was brought back. dark-lighthearted-dark etc.

It also gives them a convenient way around the old-series limit of 12 regenerations. River's only used two (unless there was another one off-screen) so the Doctor gets 9 more (assumimg one was used up healing him).

...

Shut Up Hitler!

bbehe,

I realize that, but I got two problems with that kind of storytelling.

#1. It makes it harder to invest yourself emotionally in the story. In the past 9 episodes they have killed the Doctor 3 times and brought him back to life 2 times. The question hanging over this season is whether they bring him back to life a 3rd time after his death and funeral at Salt Lake. To be emotionally invested in this season-long story arch, I have to believe (if only for a second) that Moffat would actually permanently kill the Doctor. So far he has failed to pull that trigger twice. Why shouldn't I believe he won't chicken out a third time?

#2. Its lazy writing. Like I said. The Doctor has died 3 times in the past 9 episodes. Is this really the best Moffat can come up with?

#3. It isn't "organic". This is the first time River Song ever met the Doctor and she seems to fall in love with him almost instantly (despite being programmed to kill him). Why? Because if she didn't, she wouldn't save his life. And why does she **have** to save his life? Because if she doesn't, we have to think of some other way to explain why she dies in "Silence in the Library/Forest of the Dead" without regenerating. To me, the characters stop being "real" people in episodes like this because what they do isn't determined by their motivations, its determined by what is "required" by the plot.

Over all, this episode leaves me with the impression that Moffat has really stopped caring about his characters. He's more concerned with trying to write "clever" plot twists and the characters are just puppets taking us from one twist to the next. And I guess we're supposed to complement him on that? IMO, that signals extreme self-indulgence, which is a short hand way of saying he doesn't respect the characters or the audience.

It is a cop-out to kill this Doctor twice and say you'll kill him a third time (not this doctor yet, so I'm not sure if Salt Lake counts as a death) and expect people to buy it.

Adding that it's a "fixed point" helps a little, but only on a logical level and it needs to work on an emotional one as well.

But as to 3, well Meloriver was probably conflicted since she'd spent the last ten years or so with her mom basically idolizing The Doctor. She obviously seems to value their opinions or just values them as parents since she sought them out post-regeneration.

Considering how she found them and their lack of surprise about how much she already knew we can assume that while The Doctor was baby hunting they've been filling her head with their adventures and creating a bit of internal conflict about just who is this Doctor man.

Ok, something was bothering me about the episode.

(I'd put up a spoiler alert but really, what's the point)

The Tesselecta takes historical baddies out of time the moment before their death and "gives them he'll" right? Well then why was it in 1938 when Hitler died in 1945 and why do I get the feeling that question is important.

Ok, so they realized the mistake eventually and obviously can't be the brightest bulbs in the robotic metamorph but still, it just feels like to big of a mistake to be nothing.

Yeah, it just strikes me as odd that they missed in the first place. Since their actions can have drastic ramifications you'd think they would have double checked BEFORE killing people.

My guess is that it was another inorganic feature of the story. They made the mistake because they had to for the story to make sense. Real ppl would have double checked. Puppets do what theyre told.

But I could be wrong. I'm still just in a bad way about that ep. :p

But they didn't have to make the mistake for the story to make sense.

The only thing they would have had to change would have been where Meloriver got her clothes from, since nobody would be dining during the invasion of Berlin.

I guess it gives the Tesselecta a convenient excuse to abandon their mission, but since she's a bigger criminal anyway they could have abandoned it no matter what.

It just seems... odd. Of course, it's probably nothing. The coat thing last season just has everyone looking at every minute detail and I guess I've fallen into that trap as well.

I missed the coat thing until someone explained it to me. Apparently in the second Angels episode, they did some trickery while Amy had her eyes shut due to the Angel possession. When the Doctor came up to her saying something like "You have to remember" (which was very out of place), the doctor was wearing his coat again even though it had been left with the angels when they grabbed him.

This was meant to show that it was not actually The Doctor at this point in time saying that, but one from a future point in time. In this case, I believe it was his non-corporeal form reliving events that were being wiped out since he jumped into the crack to reignite the universe (at least I think he was non-corporeal while this was happening). They re-showed the scene during that montage, which I believe is where you should have seen it.

I really enjoyed the nightmare episode. The one with Amy aging was alright, but it had kinda already been done with Rory.

I still don't feel like it has returned to form.
