I looked into getting a Tamaskan from the same place several months ago. There aren't many breeders in the US, and there is some really bad blood between a couple of the places. They even call each other out on their websites, blame each other for being puppy mills, etc.

I'm also pretty sure that the first (recent) "Tuffy" was picked up from this place, before being returned back because of the puppy mill rumors. Remember the pics with the girl & Tuffy? She is the daughter of the family that owns this place.

NC State has a tradition of using humans dressed in mascot outfits at games — they're known as Mr. and Mrs. Wuff — but athletic director Debbie Yow decided before the 2010 football season the school needed a live animal on the sidelines during games. School officials chose not to use a live wolf because of possible danger to humans and because they don't respond well to loud noises such as fireworks, which are shot off after NC State scores. Instead, NC State chose a Tamaskan dog because it resembles a wolf and can handle the commotion that comes from being in front of nearly 60,000 spectators. The perpetrator of last year's poisoning has not been caught, but the case has remained open, Cartwright said. "The investigation is still ongoing," he said. "We never got enough evidence to prove we could charge anybody." However, Cartwright said his office has more evidence with which to work this time. "We got more of the bowl this time. This is very good," Cartwright said, indicating investigators might have discovered fingerprints. Debby Stainforth of the Tamaskan Dog Register said the dogs are bred on a small-scale basis and are rare and quite valuable. Breeding is selective, and all breeders are required to meet specific standards. "Pedigree litters are few and far between, as we believe in quality, not quantity, and we aim to produce, above all, healthy puppies with exemplary temperaments and an eye-catching appearance," said Stainforth, who is close friends with Tuffy's breeder. "All registered breeders must adhere to a strict set of rules to ensure healthy puppies that are raised to the highest standards." "Tuffy" was born in 2009, but the dog's parents haven't produced a litter since. "
