So my supposed best friend gave me a 50" samsung LCD tv about 18 months ago that he got from his work because they were just going to trash it. He had no use for it at his house and it didn't come with a base since all the screens they use are mounted. I put about 150 for an OEM base and have been using it as my main TV since. Now his slutnosed fiance is making him ask for it back so that she can put it in their spare bedroom because her dead beat brother has to move in with them for awhile.

I don't mind giving it back, it's got some dings and the HDMI connections are a little flaky, but christ that is some pushover bullshit.

1) you've had it for over a year, so its yours now
2) tell your friend to grow a set and tell his fiance to shut the fuck up
3) tell your friend no
4) send them pictures of you playing xbox on it

Its a 50 inch flat screen, not a snow globe. Be glad you got to enjoy it for 18 months and shut the fuck up.

If he gave it to you and you spent money on it then it's yours. Just tell him you're still using it and you don't want to be out the $150 you spent. He's a pushover, so he'll just end up caving in anyway.

i doubt i'll get it back, heck i won't want it back at this point. I was joking with someone that i'd take the base off and give it back to him just like i got it. So it can lean against his wall not being used like it was for 6 months before i got it.

Easy way for him to ask for the TV back without really asking for it.

Yeah, i may try and get compensation but ultimately the money isn't an issue. Honestly, he could get another TV from work without any issues. There's probably something deeper here dealing with his fiance and her distaste for me.

If you give it to him, don't give him the base.

What did you say to him when he first asked?

he asked me back in early march about it and i was getting ready to move. so i said give me a few months to let me get settled in and we'll figure something out. so here we are 30-40 days and i got a text asking if i bought a new TV yet.

(dead beat brother in law must really not like having a free bed to sleep in with a regular tv in his room)

In that case I'd keep the TV, invite them over for dinner and repeatedly point at the TV while raising the roof with your arms and saying FREETV HOLLAAAAA!!!!!".

Or when you give the tv to him, look him dead in the eye and say " hey fuckface, lose my number until you grow a set of balls OR fix the problem with you fiance and her brother". Raise one eyebrow, then walk off.

Seriously, if you end up giving the tv back, make sure you say some shit that lets your buddy know this marks a milestone in your friendship.

At some point, this guy will look at his terrible wife and "kid" and say FUCK!

Having a "best friend" into your late 20's is unhealthy anyway. The ideal social structure is to have 3-4 very close friends and a finite circle around each of them with outward branching degrees of familiarity. This way, you always have someone to confide in, and you're getting a variety of inputs instead of just from the same person every time.

So first your friend gets whipped into letting the brother mooch off him for the unforeseeable future, then he is further beat down by his fiance demanding that his accommodations be better than a simple 30" tv. Trust me, the brother isn't going to leave any time soon with a free room with a 50" tv.

If you're a true friend you'd talk him out of marrying that chick.

we've tried. the social structure slave noted above has tried to voice our concerns a few times. it's a lost cause at this point. maybe i can give the tv to them as a wedding present
