List some of the more notable contributions Chapel Hill has made to our society.

UNC graduate student, Donald R. Currey, killed the world's oldest non-clonal organism in 1964. Prometheus was a pine tree in a Nevada park that was nearly 5000 years old. For many unclear reasons, Donald ended up chopping it down for research when it was arguably unnecessary.

Reuben Hill, a research professor in Family Life, made this gem of a film called "Appreciating Our Parents."

Here's the video from MST3K

Or if you don't like MST3K, here's the plain version in color

Yeah, it's really an "as you notice them" kind of post. I don't condone any research of any kind.

Who came up with the FUCK DUKE T-shirt? If it was a UNC person, than this should go on the list. If not, it still should be celebrated.

This thread is for making a UNC fail an achievement, not for actual achievements.

haha, you probably saw it on reddit last week like I did. I figured I needed at least two examples to start this thread and those have been the most recent ones to pop up.

I hate UNC grads too, but I thought I would mention this thought (because a prof told me about this once too)

If you believe in the fact that things in nature exist that we can't explain and that the stories passed down from generation to generation mean something, then maybe, just maybe, chopping down a 5000 year old tree was a really really bad idea.

Actually my horticulture prof (Bryce Lane...would highly recommend him) talked about that in class a few weeks ago. He could have seen it on reddit though.

Well we could also mention that their alumni Bruce Ivins is the man who supposedly perpetrated the anthrax mail attacks and killed himself when the investigation closed in on him.

Or that their heralded alumni who still lives in the area imploded his presidential career by fucking around on his wife who was fighting a losing battle with cancer. Oh yea, but he did go to NCSU too, although he seems to have embraced UNC and gave us the middle finger. Good riddance.

On a positive though, Ken Jeong did go to UNC Med School after graduating from Duke. But this is the wrong thread to celebrate "great achievements" isn't it?

Yeah, I didn't really mean for this thread to be about criminal acts. More like silly, little instances of carlface.
