years ago when i was just starting to learn to work on my own car i went to replace my radiator...had to remove the A/C condenser to get to it and without even thinking I just cracked open the supply line and PSSSSHHSHSHSHSHSHSHSSSSSHSHSHSHSHHSHSHSHSHSSSSSSSHSHHHHHHHHHhhhhhhshhhshhshshhhhhh.......

A big release or refrigerant from a chiller in an enclosed room can knock out or kill people, thats why they dispatch what they do. They have refrigeration monitors tied into the life safety system, and usually emergency exhaust.
It could have be a rupture disc that fired off one of the chillers. also the sensors on the refrig monitor system, if they are cheap, can get false readings. 5/13/2011 6:30:24 PM |

^This FTW. Elwood is spot on. You breathe enough Freon in and it could lead to asphyxiation.
Most of the responding units were cancelled early on but better to have a full emergency response and not need it then to have one FD brush truck show up to a ConAgra Garner situation.
