was that the salton sea? i have no sound & only kinda skipped through the video a little. if so, there was a really cool documentary on tv about it a while back. creepy place but i'd kinda like to see it. used to be able to catch corvina or something there.

I went there in January

Saw a few dead fish here and there but it didn't really smell bad

I went to a bar in Bombay Beach called the Ski Inn and had a few beers for like $3 and talked to some of the locals. It reminded me of Florida

it was still hot. probably around 95

honestly, I'd like to go back sometime. it was eerie seeing so few people, but the ones I met were all pretty nice. Lots of old retired people who want a simple life and like to drink

Back in what looks like the 50s or 60s an engineering failure caused the Colorado river to dump into a large valley in the deserts of California. After they finally got it back on track it had flooded a 350 square mile area and created a manmade "sea". Lots of people flocked to the area to buy property and vacation and stuff but the sea had no source of water aside from agriculture runoff so it got really salty to the point where all the fish died and the water got really nasty so everyone left. All that's left is a ghost town.

Haha...should I be embarrassed? If you knew my mother i would ask if I'm sounding like her. I do tend to get all passionate about things like this video. I like how it was done.

I do like the video. Very nicely done. The narrator's voice sounds familiar, but it's probably just coincidence.

good video but no explanation of the old crazy guy that painted the hill?

[Edited on May 17, 2011 at 10:44 PM. Reason : also someone needs to make a post-apocalyptic or zombie movie there..]

It's pretty hilarious to me that California, a state billions and billions in debt, is trying to devise a way to "save" this sea. This sea has been naturally coming and going for thousands and thousands of years. Leave it alone.

Been there as well. Pretty interesting. Bombay Beach is actually pretty cool in a weird sort of way. Also I saw a drunk guy flip a golf cart there.

I thought it was accidentally created by an engineering screw up.
