This is a common trend at my company. Nobody wants to throw anything out. We have a huge warehouse of shit we will NEVER use!
And I guess I'm to also blame. damn my desk is a mess.
Anyone else have these first world problems? 5/17/2011 12:44:09 PM |

get all the shit you're hoarding and build a house out of it.

I'm really bad about saving things I will never use again--notes from college classes, old computer parts, random gadgets that I feel I could conceivably need one rainy day. It's why the room in my house that should be a man room, or an office (take your pick) is basically a junk drawer that happens to contain a desk, computer, and armchair.
The fact that I have a crapton of books and collect die-cast cars doesn't help matters any. 5/17/2011 1:20:30 PM |

^^ haiku crap you just precisely described the 2nd bedroom in our apt., sans diecast cars. My saving grace is that I also have a garage that serves as a proper man cave

I'm bad about keeping stuff I "might need" but moving helps me change my mind and trash/recycle a lot. I still have too much crap. I have a crap-ton of crap (I use that word too, though now I'm going to start saying haiku crap ). I'm not as bad about it at my job. 5/17/2011 1:50:42 PM |

Our workplace was horrible about this Then we got in a new director who allowed us to throw crap away and it's been AWESOME
It actually bit me in the ass today as I threw away a box of BROKEN motors that I had already cannibalized for all usable parts - lady from UNC called and asked me if her box of broken motors had been fixed yet. o_O My predecessor failed to mention to me that this box of broken shit belonged to her, but why am I going to keep broken crap around?? 5/17/2011 1:52:52 PM |

My company has a whole warehouse out west that they send electronics and other shit to die. Like they literally throw outdated stuff on a shelf never to be seen again. And the most ridiculous thing is we send this stuff via UPS. The shipping is probably worth more than the items being shipped. 5/17/2011 9:31:23 PM |

I told her that I didn't realize they were hers and that they were thrown out. She was very unhappy I am helping her get new motors from Grainger

^^^ Hahaha. We pay a contractor to travel 3 miles to get stuff from the warehouse. He gets paid $150.
Now you may say, "ok..." But he gets to choose when and how often he wants to go to his house. Not to mention the guy would steal from us.

^^ Yeah shit like that is crazy. Blows my mind.
My mom is a pretty bad hoarder so I've become like the exact opposite of a hoarder. I throw away shit when I should probably take a look at what it is first 5/17/2011 9:43:13 PM |

to make a long story short, not anymore. I currently live with my friend and her two kids. And let me tell you, hoarding is genetic, or else a learned behavior because they all have it.
one time I found several plastic bags full of candy wrappers that were nice and smoothed out like the kids were saving the for something. And don't get me started on the number of stuffed animals crammed in there 5/18/2011 1:09:16 AM |

I haven't quite figured out how they manage to find clothes to wear in the black hole that is their room. So I don't think they'll remember things that get thrown out. Out of sight out of mind I suppose. 5/18/2011 5:19:24 PM |

Yeah, you would think that. When we moved my great-grandmother into a nursing home, it was my mother, grandmother, and great aunt's task to sell off everything in the house. For YEARS after that happened my great-grandmother would be like, "OMG WHY DID YOU GET RID OF THE COOKIE PANS IN THE ATTIC?!?!" Oh you mean the ones you bought in 1960 and hadn't used since 1980? 5/18/2011 6:44:10 PM |
