i was never that into les claypool until a few years ago when i heard he tried out for metallica in the 80s when their original bassist died, and james hetfield allegedly didn't want les to join the band because he was "too good"

still don't listen to a whole lot of his stuff, or that much primus, but that man is incredibly gifted. and purple onion is one of tom waits' favorite albums.

^^Yeah, he plays bass like a lead guitarist. It's crazy. And how the fuck can he sing at the same time?

Did anyone go to the concert last night? I'm curious to get others opinions of it.

Also, who was the band that opened for them? There was a guy playing saxophone. I had never heard of them but enjoyed them.

Nevermind about the opening act. It was the The Dead Kenny G's. They were pretty funky. I would recommend checking them out.

We went last night...pretty disappointed honestly. I mean it was fun and we had a great time but they didn't play very long at all, and only a few of the classic songs everyone came to hear. Last time I saw them they played damn near 3 hours, two full sets, and it was a hand-picked selection of all their best stuff

And then at the end when there should have been an encore the whole fucking audience got up and left. I was that guy screaming "primus sucks" over and over trying to get the chant going but no one cared...hell if I was them I wouldn't have come back out either

First band was pretty wild, they definitely had their moments

I love Primus, but I would not pay $55 for it.

Yeah I wasn't going to but my gf sprung for them last minute to surprise me. She'd never seen them before and I talked them up based on my previous experience, so of course the whole thing was rather underwhelming

well she decided the day of, so there wasn't the option to swing by and pick them up...had to go through ticketbastard. she bought them at 1:30 and by 3:00 it was sold out (according to TM anyway)

I love Primus on record

but I saw him last year for the 3rd time, and it was pretty meh, to say the least. They spend about 2/3 of the show jamming when they could be playing bangers. Make a me so mad.

random primus mood today

^^it didnt use to be like that, les was turned onto it by trey, they formed a band called oysterhead, and les has been playing the jam scene ever since. he brought thisnewfound excursion with him to primus an dnow they're a jam band. I often wonder what old school primus fans think of it. I saw them with helmet in 96 and it was pretty much straight bangers, awesome show
