I hope that if someone buys it they fix it up at least.

I know we have a history of letting guys go if they're too pricey for JR and PK, and then trading for them again sometime later, but I really hope we don't let Jussi go. Take his salary this year and just lump whatever LaRose was making along with it and offer it to him. Here's what I hope JR does: Resign Jussi, Cole, Sutter, Joslin, Bodie, and Harrison (as a solid 7th d-man) - promote Boychuk and Dalpe, find a backup, get Daniels behind the bench as an assitant with the promise of being head coach after '11-'12, and take whatever money PK is willing to spend and let JR go get a top pairing defenseman.

It's a race between the Dead Wings and the Penguins. Certainly not the Canes. Casual fans, sure, but fair weather? Not so much.

It's already pretty well known that Peters is going to Charlotte, so they're going to try and bring in a vet goalie to back up Cam.

I'd rather lose LaRose than Jokinen.

And I don't see Stillman coming back either...

lol

how many games have the redwings had where only like 3000 fans show up. how many have the canes???well both canes games I went to in the past 2 years had probably 3x as many empty seats as occupied.

I've never been to a wings game where it was even near that bad. the only problem with the wings games is that the big corporations have to own seats on the the floor as there are no boxes at the Joe. So half the time the corporate seats are empty. I really hate the Joe Louis arena.

Also, when was the last time the red wings were bad? Please show me an example of fair weather redwings fans. I agree with Pittsburgh, but not the wings. The city of Detroit would never give up on a team like Pittsburgh did in the late 90's. I mean hell, the city of detroit still sticks with the lions

to actually add a productive thought in this thread (unlike my first comment), carolina really needs to shore up their Defense and add a scoring forward who can play on the 2nd line. I think someone like a healthy Jason Spezza would be perfect (although i know they wouldnt be able to offer up enough for him)

Defense wise, its been like this for years. Depth is complete crap. The owners need to open up their checkbooks

[Edited on June 6, 2011 at 1:10 PM. Reason : and the community needs to better support their team by actually going to games.]

BREAKING NEWS: 85 year old franchise with 11 Stanley Cups in a metro area of 4.3 million people has larger fan base than franchise that has been in its current metro area of 1.1 million people for 12 years and has 1 Stanley Cup.

On another note, signing Brad Richards would be the most amazing thing ever, but obviously has no chance of happening.

Ok I get what you were saying, I just wanted to make sure because it doesn't make any sense. An average crowd of 16,000+ out of 18,000+ for a fringe playoff team doesn't mean there were 3 times as many empty seats as full, or it looked like the Florida Marlins stadium during games.

And yeah Richards would be amazing, but I doubt we spend enough to make it happen. And if it did then we'd have no money left to fix the defense.

My beef with the hurricanes and hurricanes fans stems from the stanley cup matchup between the canes and wings. Before the stanley cup, the papers around raleigh and the news stations and people were saying that Raleigh was the new hockeytown usa. These were the same media outlets and people that had in various degrees previously shunned their hometown team. These were people who wouldnt know a hockey formation from their sister's vag. And those people had the balls to say that they were the new hockeytown usa. Anyways, for the city's sake i hope people attend more games and they are around for a long time.

^i said it sucks that a lot of the good seats are owned by corporations, so a lot of times they're not used. The difference between that and most every other hockey arena is that the others have boxes and in game you never see the empty boxes as much as the empty seats near the glass which is the case at the Joe.

Who gives a fuck? Back on topic...

Quote :
"Brind'Amour to join coaching staff

It's expected the Canes will soon announce that former captain Rod Brind'Amour has agreed to join Paul Maurice's coaching staff for next season.

General manager Jim Rutherford has talked several times with Brind'Amour about a coaching position since the past season ended. Brind'Amour, who retired as a player after the 2010 season, served as director of forwards development for the organization last season.

It's expected that Brind'Amour will not be behind the bench with the coaching staff for every game and will continue to work with younger players in the organization. The final details of the position apparently are being hashed out, and an announcement could come by the end of the week.

Ron Francis, the Canes' associate head coach the past three seasons, asked after the season to return to the front office as assistant general manager and director of player personnel. Francis worked most, but not all of the Canes' games behind the bench.

Rutherford has said he has been impressed with Brind'Amour's leadership qualities, knowledge of the game, and his ability to both judge and relate to players.

Francis, Tom Rowe and Tom Barrasso were Maurice's assistant coaches last season. It is not certain if there will be any other coaching changes."

The discussion is pointless as he is referring to something 10 years ago now.

But for sake of the Canes... here's what has happened in those 10 years.

2001 - Went to SC against Detroit
2004 - Held NHL Draft
2006 - Won Stanley Cup
2011 - All-Star game

The Canes have been to the post season a number of times in those 10 years as well. So while they probably aren't going to paint HockeyTown on the ice at the RBC, I would say the Canes are the premier hockey club in the Southeast. That includes the Capitals who can boast none of those credentials listed. I am even willing to say that the Canes are one of the premier Eastern Conference teams. Never do you hear the NHL or it's critics saying Raleigh is an awful place for hockey. It's always high praise.

Always felt like Brind'Amour would want to be a coach sooner rather than later. Gonna be nice to see him behind the bench. Wonder if he's gonna take over special teams responsibilities or if they're gonna do anything different.

Really? The only thing I remember from that run in terms of news media was the Detroit media calling Raleigh Mayberry and that everyone in NC was a redneck.

Saw that too... and I was immediately not excited.

You guys think there is any chance the Canes go after Drury? I know it's a long shot, but he could be a good veteran player for a very young team.
