I am moving to SC and have reluctantly picked comcast for my utilities. They said 1. I could rent a modem for $7/mo, or 2. I could buy one from them for $149. I asked if i could buy one on my own, and in a round about way they said yes, but would not tell me what kind other than an "EMTA modem". It needs to be for both internet and phone.
Does anyone have any tips on this? I am computer idiot. I went to bestbuy and the guy didn't even know what "EMTA" was (neither do I but i don't work in the computer department!). He wasn't helpful and i walked away empty handed.
I also need a router....
Thanks! 6/3/2011 1:05:41 AM |

Google eMTA modem and you'll find plenty of options.6/3/2011 2:18:19 AM |

ok thanks. I guess i got confused because the bestbuy guy didn't know what EMTA was.
So only the modems listed on that website with telephony or VoIP listed on it will work for me? Is there such a thing as a modem and a router in one, to save money? 6/3/2011 12:19:24 PM |
