Yeah, you know Nintendo isn't gonna lose money on hardware. Hopefully they'll at least allow an external hard drive since you know they won't put one int to save money. 6/7/2011 1:08:16 PM |

All I'm left thinking is What. The. Fuck. This thing has that big ass controller screen, and you can play multiplayer games using it and the Wii remotes? How the hell will that work out? At least the graphics got a boost.
And at least Nintendo's gunning for the hardcore crowd.

Let me say this.
One of the most fun game experiences I've ever had was with Pac Man Vs. on the gamecube and game boy advance linked up to it. One person plays pac-man on the little screen and 3 people play ghosts on the big screen.
That's one of the experiences they're selling with this and it makes for a very fun time.
We also played Crystal Chronicles where you're playing with 3 other people on the big screen but when you need to open your inventory or pick a spell you do it on your little screen without interfering with the other players. Very cool.

They don't know how to go after the hardcore crowd anymore. They'll be serving up crusty year-old scraps of PS3/360 games when this thing is launched, then day-and-date ports (if we're lucky) with a tacked on gimmick that uses the controller, then all 3rd party support will stop when the PS4/X720 is released.

yeah, 'cool'. But at that point you're playing with thousands of dollars of hardware.
I was pretty pumped about this after hearing the rumors, but I think they totally missed the mark... just looks like a hodgepodge of gimmicks. Why would I want to use this thing as a tee for a golf game???? It seems like even Nintendo doesn't know how this thing will be useful.
And what about the Wii? Not a single game announced... thing is dead. Not that it wasn't already, but damn.

^^Could see that type of game play being good with board games or card games on the Wii. Have your pieces/cards on your controller screen but the others wouldn't be able to see. Not sure I like it much past that though. 6/7/2011 2:07:29 PM |

Haha we almost had fights break out over this stuff back in the dorms . We're sitting there yelling at each other over who pac man was gunning for.
Same sort of situation in mario party 4 when one person had a chance to fuck over someone else we were sitting around trying to argue why you should screw the other guy and not you.6/7/2011 2:12:07 PM |

Notice they don't specify how many of the new controllers can be connected at once, like they do for the 'traditional' controllers.
That would remove the only interesting feature of this setup. 6/7/2011 2:13:00 PM |

Being able to move the display off the TV and onto the controller and back to the TV seems pretty interesting. I was just mentioning the "one person plays one game, while other people play a different aspect of the game" concept was really fun and novel.

just looks like they are merging the DS with the Wii. The video definitely looked cool, but I have a hard time imagining how practical any of it is in normal gameplay. Seems like you would be stopping and starting a bunch while you go from the tv screen to the controller 6/7/2011 2:17:58 PM |

I really hope this is better than the Wii was. I think the Wii is the worst console I have ever played. (and when I define console, I don't mean consoles that were shit to begin with, like the Jaguar or 3DO. I'm talking about legitimate and successful consoles). I've been a lifelong fan of Nintendo. I've always favored their games and I have every system of theirs back to the original NES. The Wii had so much promise and so much potential, but damn did they ever fuck up with such a piss poor library of games in relation to what their older systems had. 6/7/2011 2:32:51 PM |

^^For me it's "my wife wants to use the TV and I want to keep playing".
Kinda psyched about the PSVita and game swapping features there as well (except not every game for the PS3 is swappable)

^pretty sure it is, this version is just "exclusive" because it'll have some mini-game you can play on the touchscreen (which, BTW, isn't even multitouch).
I expect the controller to be $250 at least, which is just ridiculous.
