I occasionally like broccoli. It helps if it's got lots of butter and garlic, or cheese of course.
But I'll never like Cauliflower. 6/7/2011 7:52:11 PM |

I loved steamed broccoli with a little bit of butter and salt.
I like to steam my cauliflower and then throw it in my immersion blender and purée it to a mash with a bit of skim milk, olive oil, and salt. Tastes just like mashed potatoes. 6/7/2011 8:43:54 PM |

Honestly, no idea how common it is. I just remember my mom and dad always did when I was growing up, so I did it by default. Just a little bit of apple cider vinegar on top of the cabbage...delicious.6/7/2011 9:34:03 PM |

I hated brussel sprouts as a kid and my parents probably cooked them once every two weeks or so.. I would always put up a fight every single time. Try and hide them in my pockets or see if the dog would eat them (most of the time he wouldn't).
As an adult I can't get enough of them! So delicious (as long as they are reasonably fresh) with just alittle salt. 6/7/2011 9:46:23 PM |

Steamed broccoli with loads of butter FTW.
Steamed cauliflower is meh/ok.
Sauteed cauliflower (till the cut edges turn brown) drenched in the fat (olive oil, butter, etc) is fuckin awesome.
Sauteed broccoli is also good, nearly as good as steamed.
How much does it cost in the US typically? How about the organic one?
Tidbit: I ate broccoli for the first time at the age of 20 or so. Always wanted to try it, but being a New World veggie, didn't have access to it growing up and/or it was ridiculously expensive ($6-7/lb) since it was imported from the US. Now that it is grown in neighbouring countries, it is much cheaper, but still dearer than other veggies ($2/lb). Weirdly enough, the expensive one is still on the shelves. I wonder which idiots buy that one, when the cheaper one is available. 6/8/2011 5:37:09 AM |

Broccoli is fine by me, always has been. Probably my favorite preparations are sauteed, with sriracha and a little soy sauce, and broccoli casserole (chopped broccoli mixed with italian breadcrumbs, olive oil, and parmesan cheese, and baked until the top browns up)
Cabbage, asparagus, brussels sprouts, collards--all fine by me. There are few veggies I won't eat, really. I was a little picky about brussels sprouts and asparagus as a child, but that's because I was used to the crappy canned/frozen kinds and not the good fresh stuff. Both of those are still terrible in non-fresh form. But fresh asparagus roasted with olive oil and black pepper is one of my favorite veggies.
My girlfriend also makes a cabbage gratin that is completely fantastic. Though the presence of cheese and a bechamel sauce may have something to do with that. 6/8/2011 9:29:00 AM |

I will eat cooked broccoli. Not that it needs a gallon of butter or cheese - I'm cool with just a quick steam in the microwave.
But raw it's and all the chumps who put it on their salad are 6/8/2011 9:34:32 AM |
