maybe he didn't intentionally lose, but he damned sure wasn't out there trying to win

true, he got caught, but judging from the interview, he didn't care too much going in

Sounds like this is the first Silva fight some of you have seen. He pulls that cocky, taunting bullshit constantly. Just happened to pay for it this time

This is all I have been thinking about all day. Ive come to the conclusion that he:
1. was sick and tired of being the champion
2. had no motivation to beat this young fighter and knew if he did that there would just be another one he would have to fight next
3. wanted the chance to fight without the belt which would mean choice of opponent, location, time.
4. he wanted more time with family
5. he wanted more time in brazil
6. he wants to pursue other hobbies (i.e. roy jones)
7. he was straight up fucking bored
8. he might not have tried to lose but he didn't try to win
9. if he did throw the match everyone argues that he would've done it submission , but remember this is anderson silva...who else but anderson silva would do something as wild as intentionally getting knocked out?

^^
From the first round, he was being way more cocky than he's ever been. He started out the fight basically dancing, almost got submitted, then still didn't take things seriously. It's odd, which is why so many people are saying things like ^.

Its not to give him a pass, he's tarnished himself, but it was a slightly odd showing for silva.

Throwing the fight makes no sense. That kills any real hype around the supposed super fights and tarnishes his legacy. I honestly don't think he respected his opponent's game and got caught. I watched the slow motion footage of his face when he got knocked out over and over again. His eyes roll back and he is out. Period. No one gets knocked out on purpose.

Did anyone here see the Bonner fight? He did this exact same thing to Bonner. The only difference is, Bonner is terrible.

If they proved that he lost that fight on purpose (which he didn't), I think it would definitely turn a lot of people away from him.

Jesus christ he didnt throw the fight.

He knew he was gonna get his ass kicked if it went to the ground.

He was trying to goad him into trading with him and make a mistake and ko him. He did dangle himself a little too much and got caught. Most fighters aren't throwing a 4th shot there. He thought hed already dodged the punches and the last one caught him off guard.

Do you understand what freestyle fighting is? Did no one grow up watching muhammad ali? If you can do it freestyle fighting is the most dangerous striking style with your hands. Nothing is telegraphed and you can throw from more angles. Most people don't do it because the tradeoff is that youre easier to hit. Silva is good enough to get away with it usually.

I took weidman at +220 a month or so ago but he closed at like +185. This wasn't exactly a big upset. It was a 50-50 fight coming in by all accounts.

face,

have you seen 'like water'?

he was ready to quit before sonnen 1

did you also notice how our new champ just happened to miss every fucking punch with silva on the ground?

im a professional boxer and EVERY single fight ive had , SOMEONE has approached me about throwing it

they threw the fucking world series once?

there are plenty of times where its in a fighters best interest to throw a match.

but when its in the best interest of an entire organization...then theres money that cant be turned down.

everyone knows dana wants new york

now theyll build up bones and this cat (both new york natives) and he may get his wish

what was dana going to do? let silva retire or pay him off to have a very young champion gain instant notoriety?

and then theres maybe a rematch worth ten times as much?

why the fuck wouldnt you throw it?

I just dont see anything suspicious about it at all.

The funny thing is in 2002 FSU QB Adrian McPherson fixed the football game against NC State. And some state fans still deny it to this day.

I actually heard about the fix from a buddy just prior to kickoff. The fix was on the under ~63 total points. I didnt believe it at the time but my buddy unloaded on it just in case.

Sure enough the fix was in and it was one of the worst kept secrets ever. McPherson totally oversold it.

McPherson never even advanced past midfield all game hed just pick up 1-2 first downs then stall the drive. The final score was like 16-7 and they only scored on a botched fg that got returned for a TD.

Well vegas doesn't like fixed games and between their work with the FBI they had McPherson nailed on the investigation within like 48 hours. Bobby bowden was so pissed when his staff reviewed the film they didnt even wait for the investigation to wrap up and kicked him off the team immediately. He was intentionally checking down throws and bypassing open wr and stuff. Their 3rd down conversion % was ludicrous.

At first everyone on the board was like NO WAY YOURE AN IDIOT when I brought up the fix on this board. When he got arrested with forged checks or whatever people denied it was linked to the fix. Then it came out he was involved in a gambling ring and had debts but it didnt involve college sports. Then it was revised to only college basketball. Several days later it was released that it also pertained to college football.

But like I said there are still some wolfpack fans who believe in their sweet little hearts we won that game fair and square. Just like some unc fans think their basketball program is clean. Some people just like lying to themselves.

But this fight didnt appear fixed at all. Anderson has been on the decline for awhile. He just didnt have the answer for weidman who is a tremendous fighter.

To me, it look like the "knockdown punch" didn't even connect, to me.

It also looked like:

"he wiff[ed] every punch he threw when silva was on the ground"

But what does a pacifist like myself know, anyways

this bothers me because I am a huge mma fan and my worst nightmare is for it to become wwe. this is why im analyzing this because i need to know if I can trust this shit. there are too many coincidences for me to believe it was an honest effort match. I mentioned them above and until someone can answer those questions Im calling it a fix. and vegas knows when theres a high chance of a fix so the close odds mean nothing to me. like i said ...If money was what i wanted (and dana is human) then I would have fixed this match, there were too many benefits that came from the loss.

Looks to me like the last connect pretty well. Only the first and maybe second are total whiffs not uncommon when a fighter pounces like that, realizing you got the guy form goes out the window and you just start swinging.

Silva was due to lose, he should have lost in Sonnen 1.

if you watch 'like water', sonnen was juiced as shit and wanted to win like ive never seen

silva on the other hand was homesick tired and insubordinate with the campaign.

thats why the rematch was such a different story especially after laid back silva broke out and got offended when sonnen talked ill about brazil.

Rematch is agreed in principle by all parties. There was thought to have this Super Bowl weekend in Newark (the Super Bowl is at the Meadowlands this coming year and Fox was pushing UFC hard to have a show Super Bowl weekend close by as opposed to their traditional Las Vegas Super Bowl show). But Dana looks to have shied away from that as the fight would get lost by the New York media in the runup to the Super Bowl.

"You know what's cool? Jack Slack on "Killing the King" called out Silva exactly on the weakness which Wideman used to get the KO.:

When fighting Silva, opponents struggle to hit him, and when they connect, he takes the power away by rolling with strikes. Rolling with a punch means to move in the same direction in order to reduce its impact. In MMA, this should be easier than in boxing because almost all MMA fighters attack by alternating their hands—left-right-left or vice versa.
Boxers often double or even triple up the same hand mid-combination, which makes it difficult for the defender to turn side to side as Silva does.Very few opponents have doubled up punches from one hand against Silva. I am not saying that doubling up would allow a fighter to knock Silva out—there isn't a simple answer to an iron chin. However, there is a reason why elite boxers rarely roll with every punch as effectively as Silva does; boxers are not as predictable and one-note in their offence.

If you watch Weidman, he throws a left , right, right backfist, and left. The right backfist completely throws silva off and the left connects beautifully! The thing with rolling with the punches is that if you roll the wrong way you are going to get fucked up! Wiedman definitely practiced that combination a bunch of times."

Wtf are you watching? The video above shows it even clear, but even the one before that on this page you can see the 3 or 4th land solid. Not uncommon to miss on the first 1-2 when a guy goes down and a fighter pounces because form is out the window and it is time to start swinging for the fences. Can't tell if you are trolling, or never watch MMA. Either way shouldn't even bother responding.

yall fell into the trap

^^^and a source would be nice for that quote. If its the guy i am thinking of, its a guy on sherdog that always has analyses like this for all the champions and dominant fighters come big fight time. His analysis is some of the best ive seen for MMA and i dont think he is anything but a guy posting on sherdog. He did one for Cain v.s JDS (cant recall if it was I or II) that blew my mind.

Super technical, super honest, super accurate analysis of skills and tendencies and how they might play as the fight progresses

Jones was at the Anderson Silva fight running up and down press row talking about how Silva was going to KO Weidman. There'd been talk of Jones and Silva having a boxing match at some point, which is now out the window. So Jones went to Plan B I guess.

RJJ has actually won his last 2 fights. He beat Max Alexander in Atlanta in December 2011. (Alexander was 14-5-2 going in and 0-5-1 in his last six.) And Jones beat 17-0 Pawel Glazewski in a split decision in Poland in June 2012. If I'm remembering correctly, Jones was supposed to be cannon fodder for a bigger name Pole that got pulled from the fight in the week prior for some reason. The promoters had already paid Jones I guess so put in this guy who was much weaker.

Aldo won the first 3 rounds of his fight, but Korean Zombie was getting more into it by the end of round 3. Was connecting more on his punches in round 4 but in the middle of the round Korean Zombie's shoulder separated, Aldo finished it up about 20 seconds later with ground and pound.
