Being a man is awesome. I can see why men would be a pain to deal with, though. On the aggregate, they're hairy, smelly, inconsiderate, abrasive. Male rationality only goes so far, because at the end of the day, you still have to get your nut.

Doesn't that long term birth control insert stop you from having periods?

That one that works like a spring and clings to sides of your cooch?

It really does seem shitty. Even beyond the periods, you've got pregnancy and childbirth (in all likelihood), you're sick more often, you're always either too cold or too hot regardless of what the fucking temperature is, you're completely under the sway of a bizarre cocktail of hormones (and I assume it makes it worse that you know you're under the sway of a bizarre cocktail of hormones), urination is 80x more complicated for you than for us, orgasms are not guaranteed, you get paid less, nobody wants to make you president...

...and that's stacked up against, what? If you're attractive, guys buy you stuff. That's about all I can come up with.

I can see why the Chinese kill their babies when they're born female. It's for the baby's sake.

it's supposed too.
and i think it works for the majority of the population...the thing is a they don't know the repercussions of stopping someone's cycle for that long (from my understanding). they say its perfectly safe, but they said the same thing about margarine years ago, before actually looking at the results of long term use ya know?

that and i had the depo shot once- instead of stopping mine i had it non stop for three months

Stopping your period is good for you, it reduces your risk of cancer. Having a regular monthly period is a modern, western creation. There are still societies where it is not regular and monthly and they do just fine and have less cancer.

really?
i was completely unaware of this.
where are these civilizations?
and are you sure that is the lack of periods causing this reduction in cancer and not lack of artificial sweetners, tanning oils, and hormones?

doesn't stopping you period increase your risk of osteoporosis??

I had lumped that in under "sick more often," but yeah, you guys have headaches more often even when you're not using hackneyed excuses to get out of sex.

reduced number of periods also results in a longer duration of fertility.

now correct me if im wrong....but if you do cycle through less that means the eggs you have left are older. and your body would be less adept at handling it.

so it seems like a double edged sword.

WE LIVE LONGER. boom.

Oh and as for the periods - it's not how frequently you get your period that increases your risk, it's the age when you started. And I truly don't understand the comment of periods being once a month are a western thing. It's the way your body responds to not having a fertilized egg.

I would truly like to see your sources for this egg argument. And what type of cancer are you talking about? There's a big difference between breast cancer, ovarian cancer, breast and ovarian, lung, pancreatic, etc etc. Please be more specific kthx.

I skimmed most but read certain parts, because a) it was from over 10 years ago and b) it didn't have any sources.

And this?

Quote :
"Every time a woman gets pregnant and bears a child, her lifetime risk of ovarian cancer drops ten per cent. Why? Possibly because, between nine months of pregnancy and the suppression of ovulation associated with breast-feeding, she stops ovulating for twelve months--and saves her ovarian walls from twelve bouts of cell division. The argument is similar for endometrial cancer. When a woman is menstruating, the estrogen that flows through her uterus stimulates the growth of the uterine lining, causing a flurry of potentially dangerous cell division. Women who do not menstruate frequently spare the endometrium that risk. Ovarian and endometrial cancer are characteristically modern diseases, consequences, in part, of a century in which women have come to menstruate four hundred times in a lifetime."

No. Your risk of developing endometrial cancer INCREASES with irregular or unstable periods. If you would like to read articles about it, I'd be happy to send them to you (as recently as October 2010).

gladwell's sources are included in the book, just not in the paper. i can get them for you for any of the items.

^sure post them, typically the increased risk is involved with irregular periods that are more frequent
