Looking. We just missed a very similar one near us last week

I went back and forth because we had already spent a ton of money this month after booking our summer and fall vacations and I had a minor surgery and we also didn't have a good way to transport it...and by the time I decided to just go for it and bug a friend with a truck, it wasn't on craigslist anymore

My bad, I'm not much of a feng shui guy. However, those rules pretty much put the bed on the wall with the dressers and the warddrobe and we tried that when we first moved in but it just felt kind of awkward. Things like the placement of the lone window on that wall just made it weird. I didn't like having the bed cover part of one small window so it pretty much had to go exactly where the Chest and WDs are shown and it felt randomly tucked in a corner.

I'm not one to always want symmetry, but imo it definitely looked better in the room once we moved the bed (or in our case right now, the mattress lol) to where I have the bed flanked by those windows in the picture.

Just found out there is another consignment shop and a Miracle Hill store (like GW or SA) not too far from us that we didn't know about. Probably not much there as we hardly find anything worthwhile around us at thrift stores but maybe we'll check them out this weekend because you never know.

Also, craigslist is always frustrating to search for furniture on because I usually end up having to click just about every ad with pictures because people never describe stuff well. Just because you bought it at Rooms To Go in the past 5 years doesn't make it "Modern" and just because it wasn't made post-2000 doesn't make it vintage

Got a dresser for the downstairs guest bedroom a few weeks ago and we finally put most of it together. Solid pine dresser from IKEA. The catch is that it was completely untreated wood - and obviously assembled coming from IKEA.

So, we stained and poly'd parts of it a light American Walnut and then spray painted the rest of it white. We are going to do some kind of stainless steel bar pulls (like kitchen cabinet hardware) but we just haven't bought them to install yet. Anyway, after staining, poly, painting, and assembling we threw some stuff from around the house on it and took a (low res) picture to compare its current state to the stock piece.



So far we are only about $160 in taxes and all because we already had paint and stain and associated materials (mineral spirits, rags, brushes) around the house. We just have to pick up some some hardware for it. I'm guessing the hardware will be anywhere from $30-$50 depending on the length of the stainless steel pulls. In the end we should come out around ~$200 for it. Not too bad for the amount of storage in there. This downstairs guest bedroom is also doubling as a small office. We have a small desk in there with a computer - tucked into a corner that you don't see until you are completely in the room. So, from the rest of the house this room always looks like a bedroom. Consequentially, this dresser is actually serving as office storage, but will keep the look of a bedroom.

Looking forward to getting to the rest of the room too. We've already picked out a rug, a bookshelf and have ideas for a headboard and art. Just takes time to accumulate since everything is either $ or DIY which takes time.

I can't decide what finish type I want for my kitchen faucet.

Cabinets are dark cherry; floor is neutral tile; hardware is brushed stainless; sink is brushed stainless; stainless appliances, and the granite countertops are in the new venetian gold family (though not very gold).

So... brushed stainless faucet to match everything, or change it up with a bronze faucet? I think I'd really like the look of bronze against the counters, though I don't know if it would just seem out of place compared to the rest of the brushed metal finishes.

Anyone ever used Ikea curtains? We have white wood blinds all over but I'd like to dress up the windows in a couple bedrooms with something really simple. They are super cheap and I like that they come 98", allowing you to hem them to whatever length you need (assuming you have 8ft ceilings), because seriously every window situation is different depending on the type of floor you have, the ceiling height, the thickness/existence of crown moulding or window trim etc. Pre-made curtains of the "standard" lengths rarely work imo. Luckily, the windows we are looking to use these on are on the 2nd floor where we just have 8" ceilings so I think the 98" length even having to do some hemming will work fine.

We have made our own curtains in other areas,especially on the first floor where we have the 9' ceilings, but for some of these spaces we are looking at now (guest bedrooms and such) I'd like to just get out cheap and simple without the labor.

I have a set of ikea curtains. They are pretty good quality for the price. We use them in our bedroom, and really, they're almost light blocking with how thick they are (just a peep of light gets through). They're also super easy to hem to the correct length.

nice. We've been looking at the AINA in either their grey or white depending on the room. They wouldn't block as much light as the ones you got I don't think but we already have blinds that can be closed fairly tight so I think the linen looking ones would be fine as they wouldn't need to block much. They'd be used more for aesthetics or to be able to have blinds wide open and diffuse some light during the day.

Wow, I pretty much LOVE this duvet and the associated pillows. Not for everyone but this is probably my favorite bedding set I have ever seen as far as matching up with my personality and design style perfectly





The only problem is that it is sold by a Norwegian vendor and shipping is probably ridiculous

They emailed me back this morning...shipping is $73, however, they don't charge Norwegian tax on a US purchase and the pricing on their site already includes Norwegian taxes. They said this meant that the price was about 25% less than what they list on their site, which helps counteract the shipping cost a good bit. Still tempted...

Finally got this rug delivered:



It went in our small downstairs guest bedroom and worked perfectly. It's an 8x8 rug, and the room is like 11 x 11 so it pretty much covered the majority of the ugly builder's special carpet. Especially once all the furniture is in the room.

It really brightened the space up and it's starting to look like a nice little guest bedroom.

I'm really excited to see what Younger Furniture comes out with in this Avenue 62 line. The teaser image almost makes me regret getting our custom sofa from them this year Don't get me wrong, I absolutely love ours, it's probably the best house-furnishing item we have purchased, but some of the styles it looks like they are rejuvenating are some of my favorite vintage sofa styles ever, and many of them are styles that are hard to find. Maybe I'll be able to convince myself that we need a new sofa in the bonus room sometime haha.

Anyway, they are a great little company based right in High Point and although their prices have gone up slightly over the past couple years their prices are still very reasonable and the quality is extremely high.

Looking for a TV stand <$300. Needs to hold a 60" Plasma. I'm thinking of checking out World Market and Home Goods. Any other ideas? I want something that is well built and will last a good amount of time. I'm not opposed to second hand items or things that are slightly scuffed up. I just don't want a particle board piece from Target or ikea, etc.

Honestly, for new in that price range, I would probably have to mention Ikea again even though you don't want to hear that. Obviously I would keep your eye out for credenzas, buffets, etc. used on craigslist that could function as a TV/media console as well though.

Ikea media pieces are pretty decent though imo and they have several that are very sturdy. They actually have a couple that are real wood and some steel ones as well. The one that comes to mind though is this one. It is very similar to WM but priced cheaper:

It's actually solid wood (pine, but the stain is decent).

You have more options from places like CB2 and West Elm once you get into the $300-$500 range but that does start to get a little expensive for what you are probably looking for.

We've decided on a hardwood installer and just have to make a final decision on the exact material in the coming weeks. Here are a couple pictures from several months ago of the sample in our house from the product we are still leaning toward.

I really love walnuts but they are just very expensive and a little soft for the price for floors. I love it on furniture though and we do have a few walnut pieces (like the coffee table in these pictures). Anyway, what we ended up leaning toward is a 6" wide birch plank with very visible beveling - I like the distinction of the individual boards vs the site-finished look. It's the product on the left in the first picture.






It's a medium brown imo but on the darker side of medium - It's definitely the darkest I would want to go. We were originally looking for lighter because I am not a big fan of the really dark floors due to showing dirt and scratches more but the grain pattern and the variation and the tone just seemed perfect in this product. If I could lighten it a shade it would be perfect but I still really like it. It had enough natural imperfections and variation and a matte sheen that I think it wouldnt be too bad with dust or any scratches.

Does anyone think it would be too dark? We have a really light, airy house and I want to keep it that way and not darken it up too much, but I also want a little contrast in our house I think. We have light walls, trim, and all upholstered furniture is pretty much light.

In the kitchen we have medium brown cabinets, but we are planning to go with bright white quartz counters and a white/grey backsplash that would still keep that very bright I think.

I love darker floors, so take that with a grain of salt. But I think it's the perfect choice. I really like the look of dark floors in an airy home with a neutral theme. Like these:

Appreciate the feedback. Those living rooms are bigger than ours which helps them but I think you're still right that it will provide a good contrast with the rest of what we have going on.

Looks like we are ordering that duvet set from Norway. They have it on sale and even though the shipping is going to be expensive if you look at it by itself, the overall price is not terrible and is fairly comparable with a duvet cover and 2 pillow covers from someone like C&B. Plus it will be pretty unique

ok...so here is my first foray into painting furniture (well...except for the plywood book shelf I painted, but that doesn't count...haha)

this will be used as a printer stand...it was in pretty bad shape and I wish I had remembered to take a picture before i painted it...
