They don't fully trust each other, but they've teamed together to try and forge an alternate world order from the current Western-centered order (US-Western Europe-Japan).

China is a big customer of Russian natural resources and weapons. The Russians are happy to take Chinese currency. They are however a little worried since China is reverse-engineering their military equipment to manufacture themselves and is beginning to compete with Russia in the arms market for derivatives off of Soviet-era designs.

In some way, it's the same strange triangle as during the Cold War, but this time, it's China and Russia tag teaming the US.

China is the Zerg because they have the most people.



Russia is the Terran because they have decent technology and a lot of land.



America is the Protoss because we use ESP to communicate with each other and don't have mouths.

Shifting alliances: sure, the Soviets and the Chinese were initially in their happy Communist lovefest to battle the evil United States and her capitalist lackies. However, that almost fell apart from the beginning, devolving into a rivalry then tension between the two nations. Then starting from the Nixon administration, it was a sort of understanding and partnership between the United States and the Chinese to contain the Soviet Union. Now it's shifted back to Sino-Russian v. USA. Constantly shifting depending on who has the upper hand.

India, China, and Russia at some point will come to some form of loggerheads. With China being the most likely aggressor.

So long as the US produces more food than we eat and we export and maintain a military edge we aren't gonna be in anyone's tank sights. Additionally we are a little far away from any of those three to become a tempting rich empty neighbor for their hungry masses.
