Driver side window motor for 1993 F-150 Lightning. The motor is located behind the door frame and I haven't had the time or patience to do it myself.

How about some car advice just to be nice?

I recently put some oil in my car (because I know that it leaks and when I checked it the stick was dry), but I did it late at night with no lights, and so I made a mistake and spilt some on the engine. Now, as soon as I started driving, I noticed a high-pitch squealing sound that would only occur with the engine engaged, and as soon as I put the clutch in it stops. This went on for the rest of the night and stopped, but it comes back randomly every once in a while, but it always stops when the clutch is in.

Thoughts please?

My first thought is that I don't know how spilling oil on the engine would have such an effect that's centered on clutch engagement. it's definitely something I would have to hear in person; there are lots of things that can make a squealing sound...and none that I know of caused by suddenly being lubricated.

^^ i keep hearing that this is a major symptom of the throwou bearing

that would be a huge job on a rusty, 1987 audi

Usually throwout bearings will make a bearing noise when you press the clutch pedal (rrrrrrr), unless they're dry or coming apart. Then you might get squeal when the pedal is released, but chances are you're going to get other noise when the pedal is depressed.

Of course, on an '87 Audi, that could be entirely different if it uses the same clutch setup as Volkswagen from the same era. All that shit's bass-ackwards. If it works ok, just drive it.

Lol...ever see the gag labor rates signs anywhere?

Labor Rates:
$50/hr
$75/hr if you watch
$150/hr if you help

The reality of the situation is that one skilled mechanic can work almost as fast alone as he can with a person helping. There's just not enough room for two people most of the time, and there's also having to stop and explain/train to your helper how to do the job. Even having somebody look over your shoulder is often a distraction, especially if they are asking questions. I know it sounds like an asshole thing to say, but the mechanic is getting paid to fix your car, not to educate you, and most jobs are billed at a rate determined by industry standard published labor guides...which do not account for stopping to answer questions.

All that said, most of the time I don't mind having you hang out with me and talk/ask questions as I go along.

I mean, if we're going to play that game.

Sure, we'll play that game. Try doing it without all the specialty tools that cost the shop/mechanic lots and lots of dollaz. You'll go over book time by a decent margin. I do...and I've been doing this shit for 15 years. It's weighted based on experience too...the more the experience, the faster you are. And that means more money for your experience. Everybody else gets pay commensurate with experience...why shouldn't mechanics?

Yessir, I do have a day job...boiler feed systems sales engineer. We get paid a flat salary once a month, the last Friday of the month. As some months have 5 Fridays, sometimes things get tight. This month is a motherfucker with a few extra unforseen expenses.

I've got a 2005 Mazda3 hatchback. The turn indicator lever thingy doesn't switch off after I make right hand turns, but it does after left turns. I assume fixing it would require taking the steering wheel apart. Can you give me an estimate on that sort of job?

Hmmm...maybe I need to start looking in that direction...

Thanks again for getting the fuel pump taken care of on the Alero. Finishing at/under book time in the dark, on jackstands rather than a lift, on a not-quite-level driveway, whilst being distracted by the customer, is quite an accomplishment!

Highly recommended y'all.
