I count any exploitation movie aimed at black audiences as a blaxploitation movie, though that's probably being liberal with the definition.

At the same time, if we're going to be sticklers for genre labels, "race movies" were made by all-black casts and crews outside of the studio system in the 20s-40s.

and in soul plane the whie family was a clear and crucial foil to the film, definitely not an all-black cast

That's pretty irrelevant, since Soul Plane was made 60-some years after the "race movie" genre ended.

So far we have several different definitions going here.

Actual race movies, movies about race relations, movies about issues that affect minorities disproportionately, blaxploitation films, and then movies featuring primarily non-white casts.

I don't really care, but I would like to add that Love/Basketball is an excellent film!!!
