You might be able to convince me that talent wise, they're on the same level. The difference is that Jordan's greatest quality was being the meanest and most relentless player in the league, and Kobe is, mentality-wise, just another guy.

If Jeff McInnis was never born, he would be the worst point guard in NBA history. Jordan fought his GOOD teammates in practice. Relying on Smush to get him the ball wouldn't have lasted long.
