the competency of their fellow citizens. are there any studies or rankings on this subject?

first of all, this is crazy.

second of all, my MS advisor used to go to japan every summer, and he said the reason he liked it so much is b/c everyone there took pride in their work, even the newspaper stand guys.

on a pretty unrelated note, i think the reaction of japan's citizens after the tsunami (no looting, etc) says a lot about them as a culture.
