What's on everybody's schedule?
Returning shows I'll watch when they air: Himym, Parks & Rec, Community, The Office, Dexter, The Walking Dead (maybe)
Returning shows I'll DVR for later: Tosh.0, Workaholics, The League, It's Always Sunny, Modern Family
New shows I'll try: I don't see any new shows that look all that great. Might check out Pan-Am.

Returning Shows (either live or DVR): The Office, Parks & Rec, Community, CSIs, L&O:SVU, Criminal Minds, Workaholics, Tosh.0, South Park, The Walking Dead, Chuck, Fringe, Raising Hope, Bored to Death
Shows I am attempting to get into: The League, Modern Family (maybe), Boardwalk Empire (maybe)
New Shows: Up All Night, Terra Nova---might be missing some others, but I can't really think of any new shows I'm just dying to watch 9/19/2011 10:36:38 AM |

it's a fairly weak season for new dramas. The only one I have more than modest interest in is Person of Interest with Michael Emerson and Jim Caviezel. Pan-Am i'll check out because the GF wants to watch it. Terra Nova, with all the struggles it's had will get a fair shot but i'm not letting myself get attached to many shows anymore.
With the lack new stuff really catching my eye i'm going to try and pick up a few older shows and watch some back seasons. Dexter is one. 9/19/2011 11:04:15 AM |

In terms of new programming, I'm going to watch just about everything that doesn't involve crime solving. So far...
I could not make it through the CW's Secret Circle. But I'm going to stick with Ringer so I have something to talk to my one TV-watching friend about, but it is really bad/cheesy.
Up All Night was surprisingly alright. Will Arnett/Christina Applegate are very funny people.
Free Agents was no good, but I'll watch it one more time.
And I heard Playboy Club sucks really bad, but I'm still gonna tune in.
Watched a long preview of New Girl, and it wasn't horrible.
Obviously, the list of new shows I'm going to try is too long to post, but you both^^,^^^ are missing American Horror Story (http://brentroad.com/message_topic.aspx?topic=617420) from your new lists. Where are y'all finding info about upcoming shows? I've been using sidereel, and I feel like I'm going to miss something!

I saw the pilot for Whitney (the new NBC sitcom set to air after The Office) and it's pretty fucking terrible. Also I will check out Two Broke Girls for Kat Dennings and it's latent racism. 9/19/2011 12:59:13 PM |

There is an asian character named Rice Lee on 2 Broke Girls. And that was only one of the racial stereotypes in the diner.

Yea that was definitely nothing special (2 Broke Girls).
Ashton did not really impress on 2.5 Men. The rest of the cast brought some lulz, but it was not the OMFG show they were hyping it to be.
HIMYM was pretty good though. Out of the CBS comedy night that one was the best tonight. 9/19/2011 10:05:05 PM |

I don't want to get too opinionated before everybody has a chance to watch this crap, but whatever...
I found all the bad lines in 2 Broke Girls to be very distracting from whatever was supposed to be funny about that show.
2.5 Men is bad as usual.
I can't believe there will be another 3 seasons of How I Met Your Mother. I need to get better at tuning out whenever present Ted starts talking or when future Ted wraps up the episode with the banal lesson/moral of the show.
Playboy Club is interesting in that I think it was conceived and written by a moderately precocious 12-year-old.
^^I hope that they were trying (and failing) to be edgy or something with the stereotypes. Obviously, it's bad TV regardless. 9/19/2011 11:44:06 PM |

NBC's Thursday night lineup was just about the only TV I watched in the past. Parks and Rec is the only show left that appeals to me. All the other sitcoms have either fallen off or just don't appeal to me at all.
That said, any sitcom is, at a minimum, better than _____ Dancing with _____, American Talent/Idol, Doctor/Lawyer/Cop/ESP Chick Solves Crimes Drama, etc. I don't see how anyone watches those shows. 9/20/2011 9:30:31 AM |

If you come across anything watchable(especially something unexpected) be sure to post. I can't keep up with all the new shit and what is good and what isn't, but I have some serious gaps in my TV watching schedule and need to fill in the DVR. Going to even lower the standards, just seems like I have tons to watch on Thursday and not much the rest of the week.
I think outside of Thursdays its like, HIMYM, Tosh, Modern Family. 9/20/2011 2:50:08 PM |

I was not impressed. The cameos from other sitcom characters was the only redeeming quality of the night. I thought it was a thinly veiled attack on Sheen, and I think the show is ultimately going to fail without him. Perhaps if they hadn't spent much of the episode attacking Charlie Sheen, I mean Harper's, lifestyle, they would have had a bit of a chance. Instead, it fell kind of flat.9/20/2011 4:23:43 PM |
titans78 All American 4038 Posts user info edit post |
^^The DVR ends up being a real reason for that. I actually don't watch much TV, but since I watch most everything on DVR it makes shows only 18 minutes or whatever they are without commercials. So you can churn through some TV each night when you are never watching it live.
I feel like there are a few good older shows I missed the boat on and could catch back up, but I'm more curious about anything new that might be decent. Going to rely on TWW to let me know if there might be something watchable that I missed.

thats the first episode i've ever watched in its entirety. I believe Ashton Kolchak's first line was "Can I use your phone?" and then they blasted the laugh track. apparently "Can I use your phone" passes as a joke on this show, that is fucking sad.
2 Broke Girls had a number of "jokes" involving sperm and/or vaginal secretions, which i found surprising, overall the show wasn't too good.
just watched New Girl on Fox, wasn't terrible, but didn't do too much to make me want to keep watching.
Damon Wayans Jr's other show Happy Endings is much MUCH better, i believe that comes back tomorrow night,
Always Sunny's first episode of the season was better than all of last season, so i'm looking forward to that, the league, parks and rec, community, etc...9/20/2011 9:51:28 PM |

I was about to say, you can watch a lot of TV and still be "useful". In addition to reading and doing audiobooks, I am halfway through reading The Hobbit with my sons, and then we will commence to read The Lord of the Rings. My wife and I usually sit up for 2 shows after the kids go to bed at 8, and then I watch a show on my lunch break. Not unbelievable to watch quite a bit of TV and still be a productive person who does mentally stimulating activities. I just let the HDD build up with shows when we get behind. Shit we still have the entire 2nd season of Parenthood to watch and the 3rd is rolling now. 9/21/2011 9:24:25 AM |
