MAKE IT SO
New Faces
Anthony Stewart #13 6'3" 230. Older brother of Chris Stewart, and a motherfuckin Twitter machine (@EhStew13). Improved his game dramatically last year, and could be a hell of a bargain at $900k
Alexei Ponikarovsky #23 6'4" 226. He's a big, Ukrainian fuck. Another potential JR reclamation project, he's had 2 shit storm years since leaving the leafs. There's a trend of people who missed the playoffs under Mo in TO coming to town.
Tim Brent #37 6'0" 188. "Hey, you guys need someone to kill a 5 on 3? I got this" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RHn_XET11tk
Tomas Kaberle #51 6'1" 214. Tell me, does that face inspire confidence?
Notable Losses
Erik Cole. Thank everything holy that we didn't match Montreal's absurd offer for this guy. Fans talked a lot about who's going to be Cole's replacement, failing to remember all the times he missed the goddamned net from the top of the crease. Adios, motherfucker!
Odds and Ends -Stillman retired and is with Florida's front office -Francis is no longer behind the bench, and is being replaced (sometimes) by Brind'Amour -First round pick, Ryan Murphy is talented as shit, but a bit of a midget. He might make the team, but will only cause JR to sign some GRITTY VETERANS -Corvo was traded to Boston for something that doesn't circle his own net on every possession. -We have organEYEzational depth on D (Faulk, Dumoulin, Murphy, Sanguinetti, and Levi)
Possible Lines (from practices to date; likely to change as Mo gets bored during a game): Ponikarovsky-Staal-So Sexy Stewart-Ruutu-Skinner LaRose-Sutter-Dalpe Dwyer-Brent-Tlusty/Bowman
Gleason-Pitkanen Mcbain-Kaberle Harrison-Allen
Ward (Does it matter?)

Anyone think Boychuk gets significant time in the show this year? If not, he may want out.
Charlotte should be fun to watch this year, so I will probably go to a good many of those games. 9/21/2011 8:29:28 AM |

We've locked up the PIMP HAND for another four years
Quote : | " Peter Karmanos, Chief Executive Officer, Owner and Governor of the National Hockey League’s Carolina Hurricanes, today announced that the team has re-signed President and General Manager Jim Rutherford to a four-year contract extension. The new contract runs through the 2015-16 season.
“Jim is one of the premiere general managers in all of sports,” said Karmanos. “In the 14 years since the Hurricanes arrived in North Carolina, his leadership has allowed our franchise to host two Stanley Cup Finals, the NHL All-Star Game and the NHL Draft, bringing tremendously positive attention to the team and the area. This contract will take him through his 30th year with our hockey organization, and I am proud to have been associated with Jim for that long.” " |

I fear this is true. Even Patrick DesRochers looked okay at first.
EDIT: Patrick DesRochers' Hurricanes' SV% is higher than Peters'. Yeesh.
.....aaaaand that brings me to this page, because I fucking love the obscure goaltending history of this team. http://www.goaliesarchive.com/hurricanes/index.html
Nineteen goaltenders have worn the Hurricane uniform in an official NHL game, and only two of them (Ward & Irbe) have made significant contributions in more than two seasons. For instance, I had completely forgotten that Sean Burke only played in 25 games before hit his wife and we swapped him for Martin GUHHHHLEEEENUSSS, handing the reins to TREVOR FUCKING KIDD.
And that shit doesn't even list the guys who never dressed, like Jason Muzzati or Jean-Marc Pelletier. ] 9/24/2011 3:38:46 AM |

Fun facts:
1. Brian Boucher was one of the original twelve McFarlane Sports Picks figures that existed even before McFarlane had an NHL license.
2. One of Boucher's five shutouts during the famous streak came at the RBC Center.
3. Brian Boucher was the inspiration for the Bobby Boucher's speech impediment. 9/24/2011 3:15:53 PM |

Yeah, TWC has absolutely horrible boards. Don't know what the actual difference is, but they are 10x worse than those at the RBC Center. Can't see shit at the other end if you're in the first 10 rows. 9/26/2011 4:06:01 PM |

I could be very wrong, but I think TWC's slope is less than that of RBC. I have noticed that you can't see much when sitting in the lower bowl at TWC. 9/26/2011 4:07:50 PM |
