Can someone get a copy of the latest Cisco VPN Client to me? It's free, but you just have to have a Cisco account, which I do not. Looks like the latest is 5.0.07. I've got 5.0.06 and it blue screens Windows 7 if I unplug the network cable on my laptop without disconnecting the VPN first.
What makes it most annoying is Windows disables my NIC after X period of time when I step away, even after disabling that in the power save options. Hopefully the new version fixes this. Also, our IT department sucks and I don't want to argue with them.
Thanks! 10/5/2011 10:51:40 AM |

Yeah, I can only really find .06 anywhere and I don't have a rapidshare account. More specifically, I have 5.0.06.0110 and the latest version is 5.0.07.0290. 10/5/2011 11:28:15 AM |

are you running windows 7 in 32bit or 64 bit mode? only 32bit is supported.
for 64bit use the anyconnect client. 10/5/2011 11:59:15 AM |

^ Second the anyconnect client. Cisco is about to get rid of the old VPN Client. 10/5/2011 12:02:31 PM |

actually, let me backpedal a bit, i didn't read the OP carefully-- and missed that this happens when unplugging the cable while the VPN tunnel is up.
lemme get back to you on that.

Quote : | "Symptom: The PC reboots (user may also see a Blue Screen Of Death (BSOD) before the reboot, depending on the setting of the PC) if the physical link is disrupted during a VPN connection (i.e. when you see the message "A network cable is unplugged). This can happen if you issue 'shutdown' on the switch port your PC is connected to, powering off the SOHO router (or switch) the PC is connected to, losing your WiFi connection, or even unplugging the LAN cable on your wired Ethernet port.
Conditions: Loss of physical connection during a VPN Connection.
Workaround: Since this issue occurred with a specific version of 5.0.06 which has since been removed from CCO, either use an earlier version (5.0.5.290) or the latest 5.0.07 release which also has the fix in it. " |
So yeah, getting off of 5.0.06 will fix this. you can register for a guest account for free, btw.

Still using 5.0.03.
I use it with Windows 7 64 bit but within XP mode. Works nicely. Only way I know of to get internet PLUS use the VPN. 10/5/2011 12:30:57 PM |

^^Awesome! That's the issue, and I found 5.0.07 out and about on the net after some work. I'm out of the country right now so finding it was a little more trouble than usual.
Thanks Bobby. 10/5/2011 2:28:08 PM |

yeah, use the shrewsoft client for the old ipsec-based stuff. the developer is a good dude... and it's free, and works very well.
the anyconnect client doesn't suck. 10/8/2011 3:43:20 AM |
