I have two cats 1 male 2yr old/ 23 lbs and 1 female 19mo old 8 lbs. Female is in very poor shape now after a visit to Vets with possible overdose of sedatives.

I was taking the female in for a place on her neck that she scratched at and made a little raw while I was out of town over the weekend. I was asked about getting both cats updated and decide to do it.
I needed to find out whether I needed to come pick up any of the Acepromazine because she gets extremely worked up leaving the house and what I had expired 7/30/2011. I always gave her 1/4 of a tablet per their instructions up to 1/2 if necessary. They checked with the Vet and said just to go ahead and give her 1/2 tablet, and that the medicine was fine it just may be a little week.

I dropped them off and about 2 hours later I was called and asked for my OK to sedate the cats to bath them because they were both were a little too aggressive. I picked them up a few hours later... The male was just about over his sedation but the female was, breathing weird and just hard for me to describe. At home I started to worry immediately because I had to sit watch over her out of worry she was going to suffocate herself passing out face first into anything she decided to go back to sleep on. Also the first ever 3rd eyelid I have ever seen. Today is day 3 and she is still sleeping all the time, she has not eaten anything yet and they eyelid thing just seems to be better and then worse.

I was eventually told that the sedative before leaving home wasn't considered when they gave her the additional sedative. The male is normal as can be but is sticking by her.

She is suspect of hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (I'm told each time I'm in, but I've never been told she definitely has it...)

In addition to the sedatives, she was given an antibiotic shot, steroid shots, Final Distemper shot... So the pill I was instructed to give her at home and then all those at the Vets...

I don't feel like I've been informed well enough to get what my current situation is. Maybe I was and just didn't comprehend it.... I've been assured it will wear off and she will slowly bounce back but this is extremely opposite of her normal behavior and I see no hope in her eating any time soon.

I've been watching over her around the clock for some time now thinking everything would be back to normal but it's not. Any advice? Please let me know. Thx

At the very least call a vet (a different one) and get a second opinion from someone not worried about their own liability in the situation, and see if the recommend bringing them in.

She might need an IV to get fluids and nutrition in her if it goes on much longer. Definitely call another vet.

Pet her and keep her calm, purring if possible.

I took her to a different vet right away the other day. Her bloodwork came back fine and they gave me some really fishy/strong smelling food for recovery. Her eyelid is still doing weird things. It will be just showing barely in the corner and later it won't be there. She still isn't eating. I have to go back today. And her pupil on that side of her head where the eyelid was messed up at is smaller and different at all times than the other one. Haven't found any answers on that yet.

If she's still feeling woozy, her second eyelid is going to be showing pretty regularly. Let us know what your new vet says today. I'd be pretty worried if it was my cat too, and I'd want the same answers you want. When you go back today, take your list of questions so you don't miss one, and sit there and make sure they answer everything for you. Sometimes professionals need to be reminded that you're not in the loop with everything that's going on, and they need to explain it to you, since you're the one worried and confused. I'd be polite, but firm, about getting your questions answered.

Where did you originally take her? So we know where to avoid.

I've noticed 2 weird red marks on my dog. One big one on his chest, and one on his hind leg near his crotch. Here are the pics (first 2 are the bigger mark on his chest).







Pertinent info:
-we just moved to a new house and there's a lot of tall grass in the area that he sometimes walks into when I take him out
-I switched his dog food one week ago from Hill's Science to Blue Buffalo
-these marks don't seem to cause him any irritation or pain
-his energy level is the same and he is his (happy) usual self.

Could these perhaps just be bug bites, or should I be more concerned? I first noticed these marks 3 days ago and have been keeping an eye on them daily.

how old is he? can you get better pics (that arent fuzzy?) the one on his chest (the first two pics) looks more "mass-like"while the third pic looks flatter, is that correct? did the one in the third pic rupture at any point?

He's six years old (purebred Shiba). The mark on his hind leg (3rd pic) has disappeared and the other mass-like bite/bump looks to be improving. It's not really a mass of any kind, feels more like an empty bag. It's squishy and doesn't feel hard at all.

If it looks bad tomorrow I will take photos with a better camera and post. Thanks for replying.
