I have to go out of town for about 5 days in a week and a half and the person we were going to have take care of our three pups is looking to have had something come up. Does anyone have any experience with a good dog sitter in the Cary area that could come out either twice a day or more to handle walks/feeding...or am I going to have to resort to paying ~$30 a dog for boarding.

You should pay someone to dog-sit as well. $30 a day is not bad at all.

Did you leave a 0 off of your number? $30 a dog can't be your boarding price. If it is, you're crazy to not just pay that. It'd be more expensive to pay someone to come out to your house twice a day for 5 days.

My friend does pet sitting but she charges more than $30/day/dog.

My main goal here is to not have to pay $90 per day for all three of the dogs to be taken care of. Being that we'll be gone 4 days thats stupid expensive.

This just in....dogs are expensive. I hope you knew that before you got three of them.

And I wouldn't let someone look after my pets for that long if I didn't know and trust them personally.

Suck it up and pay to board them.

My wife used to dogsit. She would usually have people drop their pets off at our house, or in rarer circumstances, go stay at the dog owner's residence. I don't remember her exact rate, but it wasn't a per/animal deal. Usually it was something like $25 per day for one pet, and then an extra $10-$15 a day for additional pets, depending on the size and difficulty level.

She (as well as others) would advertise at the local veterinarian's office. So that would probably be your best bet, is to call up vet's around the area and ask if there are any pet-sitters that they recommend. Typically (my wife certainly did) the people advertising will have references, which is important, especially if they stay at your house. Another option is to look on Craig's List, but obviously this is open to a little more sketchiness. Bottom line, if the person has references, you'll probably be OK.

And yes I know dogs are expensive. I have two, my fiancee has one. Our usual person who watches the dogs is unavailable as are the normal backup. That's why I came here.

Only in extreme circumstances would I board my dogs- I've heard too many stories about poor service,dogs
being traumatized, and picking up infections at a kennel. I'd much rather pay a friend to come to my house and keep the dogs on their normal routines. Plus, I have chickens as well and you can't exactly board those.

I've boarded my dog once, and when I picked him up they improperly attached his collar. As I walked out of the place on crutches (I had an accident on my trip) the collar broke and my dog started running around the streets of NYC. Talk about feeling helpless Thankfully some good Samaritans helped retrieve him.
