Looking for a decent shop to do my paint. I'm doing the prep work and will have the car sanded down with 320 grit, I was told this was the way to go?

I hear good and bad stories about Maaco. At the same time it's Maaco. I would like to take my car to a reputable shop. I'm not looking for a show stopping paint job, just something that isn't fubared up and has a quick turn around time.

I would like to paint it a color like this:

If you do all the prep yourself including sanding, removal all moulding and trim, lights etc then Maaco or Peach Auto Body will be your best bet. The paint they spray isnt the best, but its not bad for a cheap job. Where they fubar up a paint job is by not prepping properly. Taping incorrectly, not removing trim, not wetsanding/buffing correctly etc.

Kyle...320 grit is good prep for a paint job. As far as going with a basecoat/clearcoat job in that wineberry or candyapple color, it's not going to be cheap. The paint itself is what's expensive. I do love the color though.

Maaco or Peach would probably give you the best price by far, and they might even do it in single stage, but definitely don't expect award winning results. Jeepman had Maaco do the SuperDodge after we did all the prep, and it didn't turn out bad (though the waviness of the sheetmetal and tons of imperfections definitely detracted from the finished product). A little more orange peel than I would have liked to see, though.

Sure, I do think that prep constitutes a good 80 to 90% of a paint job's quality, but proper mixing using the right reducers/activators for the temperature and humidity range and then proper application technique with a gun using the proper cup pressure and fluid needle settings accounts for the rest. Personally, I think this is about the best time of year to shoot paint if you don't have a heated/climate controlled booth. Low humidity, and temperatures aren't too high, so you don't get as much blushing and the paint flows out better before setting, eliminating a lot of orange peel.

Saying that any paintjob will turn out good if the proper prep is done is a serious misnomer. The skill of the painter in setting up his gun and then laying down the coats in a good atmosphere accounts for a lot too.

You might want to give some of the shops like Tunstall-Williams, Coats, RJ&G, or Don Lee a call, see what they say. You won't get anything cheap out of a shop like Kenny Hawkins or a chain production shop like True 2 Form. And cheap is what Maaco and Peach are all about, though they often do produce a fair quality job.

i took it to Cary Maaco.

They oversprayed on my radiator. Kind of lame.

but I am happy with the work.

There are errors in my bodywork but it is one color and shiny so I'm ok with it

I did all the prep myself. My dad said I should have given the bodywork 1 more week. But I just wanted it one color




It came out decent, but you can tell where I didnt do a great job on some areas. I'm happy with it and you are your own worst critic. I'm going to try and keep it a while and if I do that down the road go back and do everything again so it's more flawless.

the job was 500 out the door. 70 dollar primer, 300 dolalr paint, other crap like 65 color change fee and 50 for have them resand some areas.

They did a good job i think.

funny, my 240 currently has:

burgundy hood
grey doors
grey front bumper
red fenders
on a burgundy chassis

and my future paint requirements are just like yours: one color and shiny

It's lifted with spacers. Many do that to vent out heat. I do it to fit my bov. I need to move it to another area whatever. It's a 240 thing

No thank you they are 16 8.5 front and 16 9.5 rear with perfect offset and sizing for my car IMO. Your rims are not worth as much, these are kosei k-1's and they don't make them in 114.3x4 to my knowledge anymore. I bought a 240 for just this rim setup in the past

I've got a '98 accord I'm looking to get painted and looking for some opinions. It has the standard clear coat issue, pretty much everywhere (I'll get some pics later if needed). I took it to a guy for a quote, he told me $2700 with the prep work, could get down to $1800 without it and just painting over it . I'll pass on that.

I'd like to stay in the $800-$1k range, so what would be my best bet? It's black, has 150k miles on it and I'm planning on having it for at least another 3 years. I don't need it looking like it's straight out of the dealership, but I don't want it looking like some shit $300 job either. Time doesn't matter, as I already have a new car, so until we sell my fiancee's mustang, the accord is just sitting idle (she'll be driving the accord, so for her sake, I'd like it to look good).

Also, if anyone would be interested in doing the prep work, let me know and we might be able to work something out, I'm in Morrisville.
