would make something more flammable?

I sure didn't. Till we increased the FR content in our product and it started to burn.

I the second shift of a manufacturing plant that produces sound deadening for most major auto manufacturers for those of you that don't know.

This week has sucked.

Acoustek Nonwovens in Statesville

My job title shifts between the following through out the day.
Second shift supervisor, Supplier diversity coordinator, Quality Specialist, and Process Engineer for product development and plant layout.

I have parts in Cadilac, Chevy, Ford, Honda, Mercedes, Toyota, Dodge/Chrystler/Jeep, and occasionally for other small run vehicles.

It turns out there are afew factors that led to it in our experimental blend, but one was an off-gassing from the higher FR content, which allowed the flame to propagate.

Not sure about stickers, but yes, that probably was me.
Car has stayed dirty with the 2.5 hours of driving every day.

Though now I drive the Juke.

so the gas by-product was the fuel source and not the retardant itself? how did the retardant perform?

A lot of what I do is proprietary, so I'll say what I can.

The retardant itself is a liquid that we treat our product with.
The retardant treated fiber performed fine. We decreased the FR concentration and increased the percentage of fiber in the blend for an over-all increase. The gas released, in combination with a couple other factors with the blend produced a change, which burned quite well as opposed to putting itself out.

What was also interesting was that the flame produced when burning our product changed colors. This was a factor that led to our discovery.

Was that kind of an answer?

weird. did the flame-consumed retardant have any reaction to water if it was applied?

Flame goes out. Following industry standard, we conditioned our material to a specified temperature and humidity for testing which helps decrease the burn rate.
Our plant has a humidity level of 25% currently, and the standard for test is 50% humidity.

We ditched that experimental blend, but I was still amazed that the increased amount if FR burned.
The scientific reason was that the FR breaks down to release Amonia (hydrogen content) when used in large quantities under the right conditions.
