why isn't there a thread about this? it's your fault, combined with the fact that it's not on demand for whatever reason, i didn't realize the new season of this had started.

this is the funniest show on tv.

Last week's episode was pretty funny. Manny, Gloria, and Jay bring the only "unfunny" to the show. The gays were pretty good last week too.

But I agree, one of the best shows on TV. I just wish they'd find their 'chi', or whatever. Some episodes attempt to pack too many subplots, and before I can even blink - the show is over.

Quality, not quantity.

Anyways, someone is going to come in here at some point and say "rabble rabble Fall 2011 TV thread rabble rabble."

Her character is so insignificant that I didn't even notice she wasn't in the episode until you mentioned it.

Making a thread for a show that's been on for two months, than having the nerve to blame everyone else?

What an asshole

This season has been pretty weak. It's now my 3rd favorite ABC comedy on Wednesday.

you are fucking crazy if you think i'm going to talk about every show on tv this fall in one single thread. might as well just have one "Entertainment" thread and be done w/ it.

and ^ ?!?!
i don't understand you people. this shit is absolute gold and you don't like it, then parks and rec turns to shit and everyone loves it. it makes no sense.

The thing about Modern Family is that we've seen just about everything they're doing a million times before. It's a bunch of family sitcom cliches that kind of seem fresh and new because it's done in a mockumentary format. Granted there are some really talented actors on this show that can sell tired material now and then, but this show is a long way from being the best show on TV.

it's not the best, but it is the funniest. as far as i know, no show on tv right now is bringing anything terribly original except maybe the league, and no show on tv right now is doing something they haven't done before.

Community and Louie are both pretty innovative and original comedies. They are also way, way better than Modern Family.

They take a bunch of cliches that would normally have their own shows and put them all in one and they do it with pretty good actors/writers. So you don't get tired of just the gays, or just the regular family with regular or issues, or the old dude married to the hot young woman. Like last night, Jay/Gloria/Manny's part of the show sucked, Phil's family was just okay, but the Gay's carried the show for the first time in a while. Then you have a show like "The New Girl", where if the initial story line sucks, then the whole episode is going to suck.

Also why I like Happy Endings. Multiple story lines...and most of them are funny.

coming from the guy who didn't realize the show was back on until two months later, i would say you don't know all that much about current television programming.

exactly, the only really funny story line last night was luke/manny plot. but even when its not particularly funny it still leaves you feeling good without coming off as hokie and theres a lot to say about that

i still really like the show. it does get repetitive but i could listen to phil tell the same joke 20 times and it would still be funny.

^^ same.

^and unfortunately that happens with just about every TV show after awhile. After the characters get established, the writer's start to force the item of "what would X do?" or "oh man this reaction would be so X" and it becomes noticeably exaggerated and they are basically parodies of themselves: It doesn't seem as organic anymore. A great example is both Dwight and Michael on the Office. As much as I am enjoying New Girl this season, Schmidt will probably be that way after a few seasons as well.

One of the reasons that I think Seinfeld was such an incredible show is that they managed to minimize that effect over the course of their 9 season run, even with a cast of characters that could have easily turned into that after just a couple seasons.

It's still entertaining, but Happy Endings has easily passed it in terms of "funny" in my Wednesday night line-up.

I don't get as excited about Modern Family as I use to. Hopefully they can pick it up.

I'm really hesitant to add something new to the dvr but a lot of people seem to enjoy happy endings, is it something you can jump right into?

I think there's only two episodes left in the season for Happy Endings, so it would be kind of pointless to DVR it at this point.

The actress who plays Lilly seems like she's not all there. Does anyone else get that vibe? I guess that's what you get for picking someone when they're a baby. You never know!

Kind of funny that Lilly's part in this episode(falling in "love" with the kid so fast) was VERY similar to the episode of The New Normal this week where the female child did a very similar thing.

I thought Phil's book was really funny. Especially at the end where everyone's reading from it, then looks up and makes a face. Made me LOLOL!

OK so new Lily ... she still seems like semi-retarded or something. Does anybody else get that vibe??? Is it just normal bad child actor??

I think she's not the best child actor ever, but she's still relatively impressive for a 5 year-old.

And she's also Asian. Some young Asian children (and other children) have fairly pronounced epicanthic folds, which are commonly associated with Down syndrome. So when you call her "semi-retarded" and "not all there," I think maybe you are unconsciously responding to her appearance?

Heard this morning that the child actor who plays Luke is 13 and just graduated high school. Apparently already a member of MENSA.

He plays dumb well.
