There is also some show on thanksgiving at kings with the drummer from caltrop's new band. He's definitely one of the best drummers around the triangle, no idea what kind of music this new band is but i'd assume some form of indie rock which i guess isn't descriptive at all

^HNMTF will be headlining that show, if I'm correct.

When is the Love Language coming out with a new album? To be honest, I wasn't impressed with the "new material" they've played at recent local shows.

That band's called Airstrip, and also features Matt from Veelee and Tre from Gross Ghost.

They will be headlining, the other band is airstrip. Just looked it up and its your average chapel hill indie rock as far as i can tell. As for the love language no idea, I'm not too familiar with the indie rock scene however while we're on the subject... If anyone wants to start an indie rock band that isn't terrible contact me

^yeah nick records caltrop and plays in monsonia & horseback (Jenks Miller's otha band) with john. It doesn't end there but the whole durham/chapel hill scene is super incestuous, but i guess thats to be expected

I can play banjo, and by play banjo I mean I can do more than strum it like a guitar. I can run circles around your moms with three-finger style.

My interest is peaked--I like both Veelee and Gross Ghost. Gonna have to give that a listen. I saw Gross Ghost at the Cave last Friday--they're great, it's just, you know, the Cave isn't.

WKNC is starting to put together their Double Barrel benefit concert for February. I was told to keep it on the down low that The Future Kings of Nowhere are confirmed, but whatever, it's not that huge, and no one here goes to NCSU anymore. Other bands are going to start coming together.

Double Barrel Benefit - I remember going to the first one at Kings, and it was the first time I was ever at Kings. It was basically awesome. I really do miss that place, and the layout. And the smell.

Anyway, FKON is apparently a trending band now or something. I saw them at Slim's once, but that doesn't count. Anyone who's seen a band at Slim's and remembers it is a rarity...

^^I'm surprised you didn't know, WKNC has been thrusting them forward for like the last year and a half and they caught on I guess.

^Definitely trending upwards. They're OKAY--I wouldn't go out of my way to see them, but they're pretty good nevertheless.

I think VB was probably mocking. I wouldn't call them a thing either.

Not knocking you or them. They're fine, but I wouldn't make a big deal of them.

^^It's not my opinion really, just relaying. I don't even own any of their music, they're just rising on the local scene and particularly loved by WKNC is all. Nice to see we're setting the precedent of "they're not noteworthy at all unless VB likes them" on page one though.

I don't know enough about that band to make any comment about their music. I was just saying it's a little curious that they'd say to keep the fact that FKON are on the show a secret, because I didn't know they were a band that people get excited about. With that said, I don't really listen to KNC much outside of some weekend specialty shows, so I could be way off base.

^I didn't realize I was listening to them until a WKNC actually pointed it out. I think of them as like a ninja band--you hear the songs but don't realize what they are or pay attention enough or care enough to find out.

I know I heard this song on WKNC at least half a dozen times before finding out who sings it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WCcRm-SVNGI (not the best quality)

they have indeed

which is funny, because the first night is probably the least remarkable i can remember

second night should be good, but aside from kingsbury manx, it's bands that play at least once every two months

during the announcement show, for instance, they claimed that naked gods don't play here very often...except they've played 3-4 times at kings/slim's since september

you beat me to the "overwhelming promotion, underwhelming lineup" post

I'm slowly phasing into grumpy old man phase, but in my opinion, KNC (during the week, some weekend shows still rule) has fallen off recently

The Old Bricks City Lights EP (?) is really appealing to me today. It reminds me of how shitty Raleigh is to normal people and how people are made to feel like outsiders in the bask of City Lights (of Raleigh). If I could understand what ol' dude was saying, maybe I'd feel different, but I hope to never understand that.

In all seriousness, I may buy this album. I hated it at first. I don't no more.

^Damn, why'd I have to be out of town for that.

I know it's a bit of ahead of time, but glad to see Lost in the Trees will be returning to Cat's Cradle on April 20th, a month after the next album drops on March 20th.

They call themselves Ten Thousand Armies now, and have a different lead singer (that looks like a Vietnam war protester). It's still the same, though. Infectious, jangly, 60s garage psych-pop. Hahahaha (please don't ever do that).

In other news, I don't recall ever going to a Nathan Asher show. I certainly didn't go to one voluntarily.
