These are the saviors of our franchise. The future of our team rests in the hands of a 5'11" shooting guard and a Ndengese tribesman who can't shoot. We've been a pretty bad team for a pretty long time, and I'm pretty sure we're going to stay that way.
Our starting lineup figures to be DJ Augustin, Gerald Henderson, Corey Maggette, Boris Diaw, and, if we're unfortunate enough to resign him, Kwame Brown. I'd elaborate, but you know these guys already, and quite frankly, save for Henderson, they're depressing to write about. The one newcomer, Magette, is someone whom with I'm sure you're all familiar; a scoring wing who doesn't pass, rebound or defend, but can get to the line like its his fucking job, which it pretty much is.
Our bench is equally fecal, with a relative United Nations of Carroll, Thomas, Diop, Najera, and the aforementioned rookies. I keep waiting for Thomas to break out, and I'll probably keep waiting. Najera and Carroll are cap eaters who we got suckered into taking, and it may be the first time in history a team signs someone to an atrocious contract, somehow manages to trade it away, then inexplicably trades back for it. That move basically sums up the competence of our front office.
One fortunate thing about the new CBA is that it looks like we're going to be able shed Diop's contract with the amnesty clause, which is basically a get out of jail free card for shit contracts. So thats about 15 over the next two years off the books, which is nice, but won't really mean anything unless Jordan can convince someone better to take his money,
So like I said, its probably going to to be another long season. With the randomness of the shortened schedule, anything can happen, but realistically, I'm saying...21-45.
Lookin' good, Harrison Barnes.
*The 2-3 games we'll play in 2011 don't worthy its inclusion in the thread title

We have a chinaman spearheading the rebuilding effort, so I'm slightly optimistic that we won't return to salary cap hell immediately. But yeah, this team sucks. 11/28/2011 9:41:35 PM |

This year is good solely for clearing a year off the contracts of Najera, Carroll, and Diaw.
Just don't take on any multi year contracts at all, get a draft pick, and try to start re-building for god's sake.
It's too early to make predictions but we basically have a 0% chance of making the playoffs and possibly could be the worst team in the East depending on how signings shake out.

So, we need scoring, that's been obvious since Skipper Beck. We're going to have a top ten pick. At this point, without seeing the current team even play one game, would you prefer an impact big man like Davis or Drummond, or a potentially elite scorer like Barnes or Perry Jones?

That's not an entirely fare comparison.
We'd probably have quite a few more facebook fans if we'd done obvious things like drafting Chris Paul instead of Ray Felton and Sean May, drafting Brandon Roy instead of Adam Morrison, and not trading the MVP of the NBA Finals (the real one) for an 11th and 12th man last year.
I bet we'd have at least 150,000 fans if Jordan wasn't here intentionally destroying the team just so he could negotiate harder during the lockout. 12/8/2011 12:12:45 AM |

The team is seven years old, so a true fans memory should be all encompassing. Its not like you have to ask your grandad what it was like to be a Bobcats fan in their infancy of their franchise. Thus, if you don't remember Utah having the third pick that year and offering it to us for 5 and 13, which we summarily declined, you're a fringe fan at best. 12/8/2011 9:14:59 AM |

True, but at the time, Felton was basically said to be a slight notch below Paul. Plus he didn't punch people in the nuts. I honestly didn't mind the pick at the time.
Now Sean May ... fuck all that 12/8/2011 12:03:12 PM |

I think everyone was saying we should take Paul instead of Felton/May. I really don't remember anyone being against that as fans or in the media.
If we didn't like Paul then just take Deron Williams instead. It made no sense. It was done to try to lure UNC fans to by season tickets, period.
Also, Atlanta taking Marvin Williams instead of chris Paul when they haven't had an NBA caliber point guard since Mookie Blaylock was ridiculous. 12/8/2011 1:18:51 PM |

i ain't a Bobcats fan at all. i really don't have blind allegiances to any teams in the NBA (except for an eternal bias against the Lakers). i think that contributes to it being my favorite of all the professional sports leagues.

i didn't know Deron Williams would be so good, but i knew, and every real basketball fan knew, that Paul was exponentially better than Felton. CP3 was clearly of Isaiah Thomas lineage coming out of college.12/8/2011 1:46:24 PM |

i find it amusing that the Hawks drafted the 6th man on a championship team off potential. if the guy has that much potential, you would at least hope he starts. granted that team was loaded, but still. the 6th man? #2? 12/8/2011 2:00:35 PM |
Slave Famous Become Wrath 34079 Posts user info edit post |
To be fair, he would've had to start over an All American or a pretty productive and popular four year player, so it was probably easier for Roy just to make him the first man up rather than ruffling May's or Jawad Williams' feathers.
But in retrospect, that was a very weak draft aside from the PG trio. Martell Webster? Ike Diogu? Get the hell out of here.
