So I was looking at this car with a clean Delaware title. Carfax says it was a salvaged title because of theft. I know 1st hand Carfax is not always accurate but this seems way sketchy.

If the car does not have a salvage title then it can't have possibly be salvaged, right? For example, the car was previously registered in New Jersey (a state where they consider a stolen car to be "salvaged") then it was registered in Delaware. Could Delaware issue a clean title?

BTW...I have no intentions on buying this car unless everything is cleared up. I'm mostly just curious and google hasn't been friendly.

Different states handle it differently, you are going to need to call the DMV in the Delaware and Jersey.

Quote :
"How Title Washing Works

Title washing allows dealers and individuals to remove salvage branding from car titles to minimize their losses. Titles are washed by transfering a salvaged vehicle to a state that doesn't recognize the brand. When the state issues a new title, it may no longer show that it had been salavaged. If not, the seller will move it from state to state until the branding is gone. When it is, the vehicle's history will have been "washed" clean.

I have a new title question.

I had a cosigner when I bought my car 5 years ago, and the place where I bought my car put both my name and my cosigner's name on the title. My car is paid off now and I have not had any contact with the cosigner in 4 years. Am I going to be able to sell my car when the time comes without finding the cosigner or do I need to start searching?

the cosigner's name should've never been put on the title. you will need a notarized signature from any person listed on the title in order to sell the car.

to transfer a title to anyone you must have a notarized signature from anyone listed as an owner on the title. doesn't matter how you go about getting that signature as long as it is notarized. good luck getting a dealer (or anyone for that matter) to give you money for a vehicle that hasn't been signed over to them.

i wouldnt expect to be given anything until there was a signature. i was just thinking i would go wherever, make a deal, give the cosigner x amount of days to go sign the papers, and then go back and finish the deal, if the cosigner would be ok with that.

yeah, i guess that would work

i'mma guess you're trying hard not to face that ex boyfriend

the notary is gonna have to witness both of you signing, so as long as you both sign in front of the same notary (the dealer should have one) it should work.
