Insane

So who is gonna buy it?

"Is this the world’s cheapest supercar?

It does 0-62mph in 2.3 seconds, hits the ton in under five, has zero emissions and only costs £703.64…

UNDERFUNDED MINIATURE PETROSEXUALS - this is your next car. It's called the Traxxas XO-1 and it'll go from 0-62mph in 2.3 seconds (0.16 seconds faster than a Veyron), hit the ton in less than five, emit nothing but speed and only cost a pint over £700.

Largely because it's 27 inches long. And the fastest remote-controlled car... in the world.

So, how the hell does it work?

Underneath its slippery husk there's an aluminium space frame and high-output Traxxas/Castle Mamba Monster Extreme brushless motor powering all four wheels that's funded by a pair of Power Cell 3S 5000mAh lithium-polymer batteries. There's even a special smoothed undertray that integrates a front splitter, canards and a diffuser outback. They actually work, too - they produce enough downforce to keep it on track at up to 100 mph. And that's not 100 scale miles per hour. That's 100 actual miles an hour.

To drive it, you've got the choice of using your smartphone/fumbleslab or its wireless controller - a TQi 2.4GHz Intelligent Radio System with an internal antenna and five-channel receiver. Whatever that is.

Is this at the top of anyone else's Christmas list?

Now watch it go really quite fast.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R0DMa8seF9w "

If you do buy it, you need to have access to a track, where you can safely achieve speeds of 100 mph, right? Or is there any other way to use it to its full or near full potential?

And what happens if it crashes at 100 mph or near that speed? Have they built it with a cage around the motor and internals so that at least they can be salvaged if there is a crash?

And how long does the charge last on the batteries?

BTW, by "ton", don't they mean "100"? Hmmm... Matthew Jones needs to know that a ton is a 1000 [kg], not a 100.

P.S. This isn't for "underfunded miniature petrosexuals", this is for "overfunded adult petrosexuals"

darn it... anyway, this is more than just a link to the video.

i am truly amazed by this creation... and that it costs just over a grand. i would have thought something like this would have cost at least double of that, if not more.

p.s. if you remember seeing the link here, it must have been another thread, because i basically went over all the links on the current page of the videos thread (dating from 7/28/11), and i didn't see it.

sry, El Nacho posted in RC thread on 12/2

just thinking about what precise control one must maintain to drive that thing without crashing at speed is mind boggling

yes.. brushless DC has turned the RC world on its head... just a while back everyone wanted a 2+ hp gas rc car.. now everyone wants brush-less dc... the cars are much much faster and the drivetrain required much less maintenance...

however the mind blowing speed will have you breaking everything else 3x as fast.

You wanna know who will buy this? Ghetto black people. Seriously.

I see them all the time at the hobby shop trying to buy a "faster engine" for their P.O.S. traxxas car. They just want to go fast in a straight line...they dont care about any kind of "racing".

I suspect it'll be bought by semi-rich thirty somethings who run it a couple times, do $50 worth of damage to it, and forget about it in the back of their closet for a decade or so.

A used sportbike will do pretty much the same thing for about the same money.

And you can ride on it.

2.3 seconds to 60... for 1100 on a used sport bike??

Ohh i'm calling bullshit all over that one.

the brand new bimmer is the only liter bike that comes close and the hyabusa & kawi 1400 yeah good luck finding one of those for a grand.

I doubt you'd notice the extra one or two seconds while trying to hold on.

I've never understood the rc nerds. I do enjoy watching rc airplanes crash, though.

when i ran a hobby store, this was our target market for helicopters- except it becomes crack, when parts break!

I have two identical cars i can steal parts off of , and tons of spares. However, straight line speed runs get OLD. Further, Traxxas onroad cars are not known for handling at all. This is not a race car by any means.

still, interest in the hobby is always a good thing IMHO

my first stadium truck was a traxxas... they actually come with pretty good drive lines but crap for chassis...

i still run the stock traxxas stuff in my HPI RS4 MT when i'm just playing (and don't need huge speed)

sounds like another gateway truck from traxxas

Lol...When I was a kid one of my neighbors at Lake Gaston was into RC Helicopters and planes. I watched him fly the helicopters probably 7 times and I'd bet 5 of those ended in some kind of disaster. He was a good pilot with the planes though. He had a nice Piper Cub on floats that he would take off and land in the water. The helicopters looked insanely difficult. This was the mid-80s so I don't know if technology has caught up at all to make them easier to fly.

I've got a sweet RC-10 in the attic. I should bring it down and buy a battery pack for it sometime.
