Brolin's Tomme Lee Jones impression is dead on (well at least for the 2 seconds you see it)

Tommy Lee Jones looks much younger here than he has recently...and Will Smith doesn't look like he's aging at all.

It might be the second biggest flop of 2012, after John Carter of course.

^ Doubt it MiB2 sucked, but still made ~400 million. Jones and Smith have a shit load of star power and can bring in people just because they're in it.

MiB2 made significantly less money than the first movie with a significantly higher budget. The budget on the third one is even bigger (reportedly $215 million), and I think that combined with waning interest in the franchise could equal disaster.

It'll be 10 years since the last MiB movie, never underestimate nostalgia and remembering things as better than they actually were. Tron Legacy is a good example of this.

Add in Josh Brolin and Emma Thompson...I'm definitely seeing this movie. MiB2 was aweful, but I still love the original.

Tron Legacy is not a good example of that, there were 30 years between the two films and a compelling reason for doing a second film (the massive advances in CGI).

The second one's fatal flaw was giving David Cross meaningful screen time. While he works in a vacuum, he's poison to any mainstream production.

Also I feel the need to point out that Tommy Lee Jones in no way has "a shit ton of star power that will bring people in just because he's in a movie"

I don't see this flopping. Will Smith is too big, even in a dated franchise film like this.

now would it do Independence Day: 2 numbers? no way, and that's why he needs to do that next.

I hear Jeff Goldblum's holding up the production because he wants equal billing

I think Will Smith has lost some of his luster due to Willow Smith, Jada, his scientology garbage, and his awkward Colbert interview.

I wonder if Will Smith will release a rap song to go with this film.

On a side note, the Men in Black ride at Universal Studios is really fun.

plz2elaborate

From what I could find on a quick google search, he donated some money to a school that used a teaching tool used by scientology, but he said he was not a scientologist.

I won't pay money to see this, but once it shows on tnt, I will enjoy it then. Plenty of people will pay, this won't be a flop; maybe not the great numbers of the first MIB, but money will be made.

"3. Is Will Smith still a giant movie star, and is anyone really excited about another 'Men In Black'?

There was a point where I would have argued that Will Smith was the last safe bet in Hollywood, but no more. "Seven Pounds" is starting to look less like an anomaly and more like a turning point, the moment where Smith's keen commercial instincts finally stumbled. This summer's "Men In Black 3" is perhaps the most desperate move he's ever made as a movie star, and it's a huge gamble. The movie has gone through at least three major rounds of shooting, including a fairly public shut-down due to script issues, and it's one of the most expensive films that Sony has ever made at this point. Can they make it all pay off in the end? If not, then all the pressure falls on Smith's follow-up film, "After Earth." And considering his director for that movie is M. Night Shyamalan, it seems like the most vulnerable moment in his career."

More like Hancock was the turning point.

Doing a movie with M. Night Shyamalan is just expected after that fucking terrible movie.

Certainly not meant to be a new cornerstone in the sci-fi genre, but it looks like they went for pure entertainment factor and I enjoy those kinds of things.
