At least if you use Firefox, you can install The Pirate Bay Dancing, basically a souped-up and customizable version of MAFIAAFire Redirector: http://mafiaafire.com/
I hope this one gets ported to Chrome like MAFIAAFire Redirector (and the temporarily-retired Slash Unblocker) were.

Another idea is DeSopa, DNS Evasion to Stop Oppressive Policy in America, which does not, however, circumvent any potential IP blocks instituted under SOPA: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/desopa/

Technical issues aside, I still dont understand how some of you can justify the continual downloading of copyrighted material. I dont like SOPA. I had a meeting with NBC Universal a few weeks ago and told them so. But seeing so many assholes that think they can steal just because its easy to do so with the internet makes me think twice.

The people that would argue for completely ignoring and/or promoting unabashed piracy are few and far in between even on TWW, so you're preaching to... 4chan and maybe like 3 people on here.

Most people here are more concerned with the ripple effect and high likelihood of abuse that will ensue from SOPA.

I download every TV show that I watch with Sickbeard+Usenet automatically, but I purchased Louis' $5.00 Beacon Theater special without even thinking twice. So I don't know where that puts me ethically? SOPA and Protect IP are both shit and I agree this thread is unnecessary and dumb.

^^^

I think that brings up a pretty important part of digital piracy. If the RIAA/MPAA/various industry groups would channel their efforts towards providing more value, flexibility, and ease of consumption to their customers, rather than towards legislation, people would be more willing to pay for the digital content, and the record/movie/tv industry would make more money.

The Louis CK one was a good example. I've never experienced such ease in purchasing digital content. a couple of clicks, easy download, no DRM.

just realize that for every person who's illegally downloading something they shouldn't, there's a company out there filing a false dmca takedown on an item they have absolutely no claim to (which would be a SOPA site shutdown)

Noen don't make me pull logs from 2003-2004.

Do you really think there is even an audience at all in TT that needs a crayola illustration of how DNS works?

I don't pirate music anymore because of Spotify. I'm not making excuses or trying to justify anything, but what BobbyDigital said rings true. Stop spending so much time and effort into preserving a 20th century business model and figure out a way to offer up your content in an affordable and convenient way.

I wish my DVR was as user friendly as Sickbeard

I also don't pirate Android apps even though it would be incredibly easy to do so and I dumped almost a grand to Blizzard Entertainment over the years because of their subscription model. So I dunno man -- cut and dry/out and out scene kid seems a bit excessive.

I found it interesting, having no idea that a service/portal like MAFIAA even existed.

I'm the same way because of Zune.

And I completely agree with Bobby's sentiment

Neither do I, but then nearly every worthwhile Android app is either free or under a buck.

And lets be honest, you dumped money into WoW because you have no other choice. If MMO subscriptions could be pirated reliably, it would be rampant.

Between netflix/amazon streaming and redbox, legal consumption of movies/tv shows is, for the most part, more convenient than pirating them.

I rarely buy music these days because I'm a curmudgeon who hates most new music, but I bought the last 2 Kooley High albums from iTunes. $10 is reasonable for an album, now that itunes has DRM free content, I don't have to worry about it throwing a fit when I upgrade laptops or phones.

There was an article a while back that had actual data that showed how netflix streaming basically was the single largest thing that could directly be tied to people choosing legal consumption over pirating. All of the lawsuits, lobbying, and other punitive measures paled in comparison with a simpler consumption model in terms of reducing piracy.

We're a decade into digital content being king, and the content producers still won't embrace this fully. It's mind boggling.

^ netflix on ps3/xbox/blu-ray player/etc was the #1 reason for most of the people I know to stop downloading because it was just more convenient. I said for years that the only reason i stopped buying CDs was that I couldn't justify $15 for 2 tracks when 90+% of that didn't go to the artist anyway. I'll spend $2 for 2 tracks that i can load on the 8-9 things in my house that will play it. If you want to stop mass piracy you just have to give the consumer something that is at least as easy to use as a pirated version would be.

I saw that Louie has surpassed the 1M mark on his "experiment. He's giving away 270K to charities or something as well.
