I'm also waiting for HDD prices to return to normal. I need to build another data server for my lab but with current HDD prices it would cost $15000 than the one I built the month before the floods. 1/11/2012 12:11:13 AM |

I'm needing two 2tb drives for this year's storage at work but am holding off as long as I can. I'm just glad I got my other hdds right before the price increase back in late summer. 1/11/2012 10:19:35 AM |

nobody else is aware of this except people that read tech news
i told them about it and they laughed in my face because there were still black friday deals on hard drives despite this so-called flooding shortage...
they called shenanigans and went out and got good deals
and i'm all like w...t...f...news was wrong. 1/20/2012 2:34:59 PM |

^black friday deals were for products that already had a fixed priced with all the adverts and commercial's set in stone for the stock they already had for the lower price. It would have costed way more for the companies to refute those ads and redo them in that short amount of timeline. Remember, most of the big box office companies buy their inventory weeks or months before big sales and then figure out what to sell them at so graphic design and ads were in place.
Also, I donno how they missed all the news because it was a huge piece of info about the floods all over the media, not just tech. I mean CNN was talking about it for weeks about the state of the industry and recovery efforts, plus a lot of news sites were wondering how such an industry was built around this one flood plane and why there weren't any real distribution of manufacturing. 1/21/2012 5:54:48 AM |

Steve jobs death totally downplayed this story. I remember the taiwan flooding being an intro to some piece on how apple changed the world like 3 seperate times in articles/npr fucking lol.

Not to be picky, but it was Thailand...
And also, hard drives prices are very close to pre-flood prices. You can pick up 2TB 7200 drives for $120 and 3TB for $170. Not as cheap as it was a year ago, but still pretty damn reasonable if you are looking to buy right now.3/10/2012 3:32:06 PM |
