since he's pretty sick, this is where we can discuss his many accomplishments over his multi-decade career in football

how will he be remembered eventually? 20 years down the road will people forget about the controversy and focus on the numbers?

if it had come out after he died, mcqueary could've come out and said "i ran right into coach's office and told him graphically that sandusky was raping a boy. he told me it was none of our business and that if i called the cops he'd schedule me a visit to the state prison for some 'horsing around.'"

you had to know this was gonna happen. Football was obviously all that JoePa had in his life, family aside, and getting crushed like this simply had to kill him

CBSSports article isn't true according to family (http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/01/21/joe-paterno-dead-ex-penn-state-football-coach_n_1221289.html?ref=college).

RIP

Joe Paterno made a difference in thousands of young mens' lives. It's a shame how so many people villanized him for events that were out of his control. He told the man who heads the campus police about what he was told happened. Joe Paterno came from a different era where child abuse was rarely in the news, and rarely talked about. I'm not saying it never happened then, but telling someone back then that their friend had been sexually abusing little boys was unthinkable and would make their head explode.

Damn CBS. Either way I hope that when he passes, people remember him for all the good he did and stood for.

cbs is run by hacks and employs hacks that couldn't even get jobs on fanhouse (prisco, doyel, etc)

That's so naive. I hope he is remembered for all the good he did, and that is substantial, AND for the fact that he blindly turned an eye on a young boy (or boys) whose lives are ruined before they had a chance to really have a life.

You don't just throw away all the bad when someone is near death.

I think Penn State did the right thing by letting him go, but the way he was treated by the media it was like he was the one that molested the boy(s). Should he have done more, yes. But it's not like he tried to cover it up. He told people higher up, one of which was responsible for the police at the school. In this instance the chain of command failed. I'm not saying he shouldn't be remembered for his further inaction, because in situations like this it's a lesson that people should do everything that they can to get the authorities to respond. I just think that the real anger should be directed to the sick son of a bitch that actually raped and molested the boy(s).

^^if it were his grandchildren getting raped, he probably would have done more than "tell the higher ups"

I think the world will explode if it ever turns out that all those boys were lying and Sandusky is innocent

RIP JoePa, truly a sad day for the world of sports. Very sad how quickly he passed away after football was taken away from him.

unfortunately, it's the young boy's lives that he DIDN'T make a difference in that he will tarnish his legacy.

I think he should be remembered for the good. Most if not all the things he did were good. Sad people talk bad about him via the internet. I hope for your sake the same doesnt happen to you when you pass.
