Quote : | "(CNN) -- Arizona Rep. Gabrielle Giffords announced on her website Sunday that she will resign from Congress this week to continue her recuperation from the brain injury she suffered when shot just over a year ago.
"A lot has happened over the past year. We cannot change that," Giffords, 41, says in a video on her website, speaking in a halting manner.
"I don't remember much from that horrible day, but I will never forget the trust you placed in me to be your voice," Giffords continues. "Thank you for your prayers and for giving me time to recover. I have more work to do on my recovery. So to do what is best for Arizona, I will step down this week."" |
Good to see she is getting better and understands her constituents need someone who can dedicate more time than she has to Congress.
Her life and recovery are more important to her, as well they should be.
And, she's probably the only member of Congress that I am okay with having waited until she has the five years served (to be eligible for a Congressional Pension) before resigning. She comes in at 5 years and about three weeks.
She's doing the best for both Arizona and herself.
We wish her well.1/22/2012 7:58:14 PM |

Yeah, it's truly a shame what happened to her. She seemed like one of the few really good people in Congress. Blue Dog Democrat. Good common sense. She said she might get back into politics after she recovers as much as she can but I'm not holding out too much hope. Definitely wish her all the best though, it's kind of a miracle she's made it this far already. 1/22/2012 10:24:15 PM |

Still amazed she recovered as well as she did. Good for her to resign, can't imagine the anxiety of speaking in front of crowds. 1/23/2012 11:17:34 AM |

Good, she needs to. It has nothing to do with how much time she can devote, it has to do with her mental capacity. No matter how much they may love her in AZ, if she has diminished mental capacity then she shouldnt be able to vote in Congress. The joke is all of Congess has diminished mental capacities, but in all seriousness if she is not capable then she shouldnt vote.
Her recovery is a miracle, and the best of luck to her. 1/23/2012 5:47:19 PM |
