And the comment about Sean Bean as Liquid Snake... it's been a while since I played the first MGS but wasn't Liquid Snake supposed to be a clone or twin brother or something of Solid Snake? I guess it just seems that Sean Bean and Hugh Jackman don't look much alike.

I too would think portal would be lacking as an involving movie, but look what Tom Hanks did with Cast Away. And that was a long ass boring movie, but I still enjoyed it. If you put a good back story interwoven in a series of flashbacks through the hero's struggles in the current situation then finish it with a good ending, it would be entertaining. Even though its so cookie cutter and cheesy.

Metal Gear Solid (shit, IV was basically a machinema with 8 hours of ingame clips and only 3 hours of gameplay; and yes, Chuck Norris for old snake)

Dead Space 1/2 (isn't there a movie exactly like it?)
Just Cause 1/2 (just cause it would be a great B rated cheesy movie with rediculous physics, something like Xmen Origins)
Left 4 Dead 1/2 (if they did it right and not like walking dead shit)
Red Faction (I guess similar to Total Recall, but I'm surprised Hollywood hasn't remade this yet since they are remaking everything from the 80's)
Stalker (... slow start, but it would be pretty compelling. Only do the 1st)
Diablo 1/2/3 (I'd just yell "Click fest!!!" in the theaters)
Starcraft 1/2 (3way war sounds like a great movie)
Splinter Cell series (Do all of them, like Bourne Identity series)
Total Annihilation/Supreme Commander series (We never got a good backdrop story, would be cool to do it like all the current starwars games and go back to beginning or origins of how the war

Warhammer 40k (just a good series, a bit complicated to do in one movie)
Crysis (everything but the aliens... cause that shit was probably the WTF factor in that storyline, was awesome up to that point and then fighting north korean nanosuit super soldiers who someone copied your suit in 18 hours? Chinese knockoffs I guess)
Homeworld (like babylon, but better)
Mech Warrior series (story? what story? Just cast Jason Statham and have enough explosions and fight scenes... ok, year is 3057... ahh shit, hang on, big mech battle happening, gotta watch)
Command & Conquer Red Alert series (cause honestly? who wouldn't watch US vs Soviet war with crazy tech like zeppelin bomber? Kinda be like the Dune miniseries)
Golden Eye (oh wait... this is a movie already, :p, oh hell, just remake it again, I want to see a tank/car chase scene again)
X-Com (Like a Bioshock version way of dealing with aliens movie)

Bioshock would be a good movie. Just make the main character witness a lot of the things you only hear in audio diaries. I don't know who could play Ryan or Fountaine though.

Castlevania could be a badass action movie.

Command & Conquer Red Alert would be awesome but it would be hard for it not to end up over the top and cheesy. The games were over the top but that works in a game universe. I can't imagine a movie being taken seriously when the whole premise is that Albert Einstein goes back in time to the 1920's and kills Hitler when he's young... but then again that isn't too far off from what happens in Back to the Future so who knows.

What does everyone consider elements/characters in the games that should appear in the movie?

For Zelda, I think the main plot should involve Link, Zelda, Ganon, the Triforce and Master Sword. They should try to include the bow and hookshot if possible.

Metal Gear Solid should obviously maintain the spy/espionage theme. Liquid Snake and Revolver Ocelot would be good choices for villains. The cyborg Ninja should play a role as well. Psycho Mantis should only show up if he makes everyone's cell phone vibrate

Wing Commander - never saw it, but the general consensus that I've always heard was that it sucked
Dead or Alive - ugh
Max Payne - never saw it. I don't think I've even read any reviews.

I don't see why anyone would want a movie based on a video game. You can make a normal movie with a similar theme and it's nearly the same thing. Take fallout for example, you could just make a post-apocalypse movie, call it something else, and have a little more freedom in the story. Calling the movie "Fallout" would just be an indicator to me that the movie sucks and they're just trying to dial into an existing market based on the name of the movie. They know they have a stinker so they might as well name it after something popular in hopes that people will go to see it based on name recognition.

Edit: Actually I'm sure all of those movies are a result of someone trying to cash in on a popular game title by writing a crappy script as opposed to people having a crappy fight movie script and calling it Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li just to turn a buck.

Prince of Persia is probably the best video game movie ever made. It isn't that great really but as a standalone movie it is decent. Compared to most video game movies though it is Citizen Kane.
