President Obama will be giving the State of the Union Address at 9pm on Tuesday the 24th.

Should be more interesting than usual being an election year and all. With all the attention the media is putting on the GOP candidates with the primary process currently on going, I imagine we're going to see an attempt to draw sharp distinction between what a second term for the current president would look like versus that of a President Romney or President Gingrich.

You'll miss the random shouts and Boehner's tears if you just read the transcript.

He should incorporate the MegaUpload Song in some way, as a "Take That" to the greatest pirate-master of our time.

Not much to talk about really. Economy's pickin up a bit but not enough to really say more than few words about. Maybe he'll wrap this up quickly so everyone can hit the snack table.

The economy is starting to recover, so maybe he will launch a new massive government effort to stamp it out.

I thought we were already doomed to Zimbabweian hyperinflation ever since QE2? What happened to that?

Quote :
"Hyperinflation is not very high inflation. Hyperinflation is "flight inflation"; something would trigger a loss of faith in the currency, leading to a sell off and pressure to either create more money or drop the currency altogether.

Hyperinflation is not an inevitability, it's just one of a few possible outcomes. Hyperinflation would certainly be preceded by a collapse in the bond market and the pyramiding of high yield bonds that, once matured, can only be paid for with higher yielding bonds. The government here will have a choice, just like governments in Europe have a choice. Of course, in Europe, they're somewhat restrained by the rules of the ECB and member states that have no interest in "bailing out" their counterparts. In the United States, we have a Fed chairman that I think has literally gone insane and will stop at nothing.

Anyone that says hyperinflation has to happen, or that they know when it will happen, is bullshitting. Since economics is ultimately just human behavior, it's hard to know how and when things will play out. The only thing that is guaranteed is that the U.S. government will not be able to keep up current levels of spending, regardless of any tax hikes that might occur."

I never said hyperinflation was "high very high inflation". I was just asking when the famous Peter Schiff's (and most other goldbugs and fedheads) predictions of hyperinflation would occur? I seem to remember it being just around the corner, weeks away...for years now.

So that makes you and Peter Schiff and just about every other Fed crybaby a bullshitter. Not news. Unless of course you either deny all your past predictions or retroactively add caveats...

Okay, so you didn't actually read what I wrote.

Hyperinflation is a "black swan event". If it was predictable, it wouldn't be hyperinflation. Panic sets in fast, and it doesn't happen over years, it happens over days and weeks.

Right now, the U.S. is still essentially the #1 superpower. If and when there is a major event which shakes global faith in that, the dollar could die.

Hyperinflation, as I stated, is only one possibility. Currency revaluation has been an alternative in the past, and I wouldn't be surprised if that's what happens...but even revaluation wouldn't be good for American standard of living.

Obama 'keys to the State of the Union address'

#1 Convince the voters that tax increases on the wealthy is the key to the future. George Soros has laid this out brilliantly and Obama should stick to this script for continued power in the United States.

What will happen:
That shouldn't be terribly hard tonight considering his laid-back and lovable attitude he gives while speaking. People just follow the guy when they hear him talk. You gotta hand it to him. The teleprompter worked seriously in his favor. It will lead to his re-election later this year if he convinces the populace of this tonight. Which leads to...

#2 Legitimize OWS. Yes this will provoke more protests. Yes it provoke more cops cracking down harshly. But it will keep it alive and hopefully unite them under a leader.

What will happen:
OWS continues as a leaderless and mostly unorganized entity. Measures are put in place to crack-down with police and the United States continues to annoy it's citizens taking away what many thought were given rights to speak out against others.

#3 Avoid and minimize foreign conflicts. Don't get distracted with what should be kept as 'Republican issues only". Don't mix your name into these 'republican only affairs' and try to take credit for things like Osama bin laden, and the 'victory in Iraq'

What will happen:
Iran/ Libya/ Afghanistan/ Uganda region/ Pakistan/ and even North Korea and Iraq aren't going away quietly. Expect Obama to mention these names just enough to take credit and avoid the huge problems there. (Good place where he will mention alternate energy as ways to avoid these as being issues in the future)

^ he already threw out the solar panel commercial during the nfl playoffs for his campaign...

i'm not gonna lie. in a sick way it almost brought a tear to my eye. b/c it's 'heartfelt message' was true. he wants a cleaner environment, with less gas, and more solar panels and he's basically going ALL-IN that republicans just hate clean energy and only love oil. that they all hate saving animals and plants and are all just white businessmen fat fucks sitting around with cigars and don't give a fuck about anybody but themselves

sucks but he's playing it perfectly. i really wish the 'smaller govt' party would resurrect itself and embrace technology and all those good things as well as smaller govt budgets and taxes.

too late for that maybe.

Why would this happen? I would think the current trend would continue: Republicans gleefully cheer the beating and imprisonment of protestors they disagree with, then whine when years later a Tea Party rally is suppressed using what has become S.O.P. for the police.

YES. let's give $20 extra to that secretary a month and take $2 million extra from Buffet that he obviously would never spend on creating jobs or investing in companies. yes let's tax this.

this is it. the future of our society and prosperity hangs on this idea.

Quote :
"Some of this has to do with the corrosive influence of money in politics. So together, let's take some steps to fix that. Send me a bill that bans insider trading by Members of Congress, and I will sign it tomorrow. Let's limit any elected official from owning stocks in industries they impact. Let's make sure people who bundle campaign contributions for Congress can't lobby Congress, and vice versa - an idea that has bipartisan support, at least outside of Washington.

Some of what's broken has to do with the way Congress does its business these days. A simple majority is no longer enough to get anything- even routine business - passed through the Senate. Neither party has been blameless in these tactics. Now both parties should put an end to it. For starters, I ask the Senate to pass a rule that all judicial and public service nominations receive a simple up or down vote within 90 days."
