Anyone have any experience with shipping a car? I'm shipping one from Chicago this week and need suggestions.
I've submitted quote requests on a website that seems to deal mainly with brokers as well as on uship.com which puts you directly in touch with the shippers who bid on your request.
The broker offers are coming in at about $150 less than the shipper offers but I've read nightmare reviews about working with a lot of these brokers. Basically that they offer low prices to get your deposit and then often stall for weeks on end while trying to find someone that will actually deliver the car for that price. 1/30/2012 7:25:39 PM |

Yeah I've started an auction on uship, current low bid is coming in at about $150 higher than the low bid from the brokers.
My impression of uship is that it's reputable and you know you're working with experienced, quality shippers but you pay a premium for that peace of mind. 1/30/2012 10:05:12 PM |

What kind of money are we talking here? Sounds like the $150 would be well spent imo 1/30/2012 11:10:34 PM |

I think there's another thread on this subject. I and another user or two explained our experiences with it, but yeah, your original post is the gist of it. You may get lucky, but the odds of actually getting the car shipped for one of the lower bids are kinda slim. They will go round-and-round with you, baiting and switching and trying to get you to pay more money; all the while, you're going for weeks without your car.
I bought my Z06 in FL back when I lived in NC...I went for about a month fucking with this silly shit, then finally just bought a 1-way airline ticket down and drove it back.
On the other hand, I had my turbo Miata shipped from VA to FL years ago for just a few hundred bucks, and it went pretty painlessly. I think they had a truck about to go right past me on that route or something...but unless you happen to catch it just right, be prepared for a big pain in the ass. 1/30/2012 11:51:15 PM |

OK, time to ship another car. I've had a couple of frustrating and irritating experiences with this; does anyone have a better way? What's the verdict on the UShip deal?
(I'm getting my turbo Se7en shipped in from CA, if anyone's curious) 1/19/2013 8:10:42 PM |
