Now both my work and personal laptops are browsing slow as shit. No errors or anything, but in the bottom left corner of the browser it says "waiting on cache" and sometimes the page will eventually load, other times it freezes the entire computer. I'm pretty sure this is a Chrome issue since it is occurring across 2 different computers... I am signed into Chrome on both browsers, so there is the only connection.

what does that have to do with anything? I prefer chrome for it's features. IE has been much slower than chrome, until this issue popped up. And yes, I have IE, but that doesn't help me.

Windows doesn't accurately account for Chrome's memory usage

wait nm it does

but all that memory overhead is the cost of a multi-process architecture, in which every single plugin and extension, and judiciously selected groups of tabs, each have their own sub-process of the main browser process

now Opera on the other hand, the only true single-process browser around, has much lower memory usage, but OTOH if anything crashes the whole browser session crashes

seems like a high cost when the 8 tabs i have open right now are tww, espn, a couple craiglist tabs, wordpress, imgur, and two rootzwiki tabs

i really don't see why a browser should use 400 megs of ram for simple shit like that

YET I CONTINUE TO USE IT

^^lotta javascript nowadayz na mean

also what extensions do you use? Adblock Plus does speed up your browsing even while it extracts a memory overhead (for my 30-tab session it's 97,280KB right now)

I guess with memory being dirt cheap these days, I don't worry about using 10% of my memory capacity.

Are you browsing on a calculator watch? Who gives a fuck about 400 MB of memory usage?

Uninstall and reinstall. And if you have any other google products that are installed, maybe uninstall and reinstall them as well. Its probably worth a try.

Oh and try ccleaner.

^^^^this laptop has 2 gigs of ram, i dont think 20% of the physical memory is necessary for a browser thats often minimized

though closing the ESPN tab did seem to cut it down to less than 200mb

but sometimes my computer locks up during youtube videos and stuff, dont act like its perfect

^It's not Chrome eating 400mb of memory, it's FLASH. Disable flash and watch memory usage plummet (this is true for any browser, not just chrome)

Is using click-to-play sufficient, if one merely doesn't click on those grey boxes?

Also, when you use CCleaner, put this file in its program directory for maximum cleaning effectiveness: http://jansal.net/etc/winapp2.ini

^^^ Who cares? Are you running out of memory? If not, it doesn't fucking matter. Trying to keep as much of your memory free is asinine. It's a waste.

basically its xbox-huge memory usage is partially why it feels so fast
