So I just purchased one of these:
http://www.amazon.com/Contigo-AUTOSEAL-Stainless-Insulated-Tumbler/dp/B001RMIWJ6/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1330024640&sr=8-1
It's amazing. You can play football with it and it doesn't leak.
Can anyone recommend a good thermos that doesn't leak? I've tried a couple and most of them leak through the threaded seal.
Clarification: Mug: Morning coffee Thermos: Afternoon refill for above 2/23/2012 2:19:01 PM |

I use the Bodum travel tumblers. They're pretty much as leakproof as anything I've ever experienced, and they're aesthetically pleasing as well.

Haven't tried the travel press they make, but I will soon. 2/23/2012 3:20:22 PM |

Got one of those Oxo Liquiseal coffee mugs for christmas, and it's been phenomenal:
Only complaint would be that it's not quite big enough. I like to take A LOT of coffee to work. Like...at least two cups worth. I think this one is about one a half. 2/23/2012 3:33:38 PM |

i can (and have) kept coffee hot (not just warm) for more than 4 hours with this this from REI: http://www.rei.com/product/794391/rei-vacuum-infuser-mug-15-fl-oz
i've tossed it in my backpack (with my kindle, no less), and it's never leaked a single drop...i haven't used it with actual coffee grounds or tea, yet, but i will at some point...the top lid (far left) comes out and you drink through the holes
what i like about it is that it comes apart so there are no crevices or places for gunk to build up...i like my mugs/thermoses to be simple and easy to clean, which is why i avoid those autoseal things
it's 15oz and i bought it with my 20% coupon, so it's around the same $20...plus the lifetime REI warranty is awesome, as always

Anyone know where to buy a wide bottomed thermos? My dad used to have one and loved it since he could put it on the floor of his busted up truck, but lost it or some shit 2/23/2012 3:41:08 PM |

^^^I have this one:
http://www.rei.com/product/799295/rei-flip-top-vacuum-tumbler-15-fl-oz
Similar and advertised as a "vaccum" tumbler and it leaks like a bitch. Why I'm hesitant to get anything else that's REI.
Got the mug. Want a screw off thermos now. Thinking of something like this:

The Contigo's top is dishwasher safe. Most of the bottoms aren't. 2/23/2012 4:02:47 PM |

first, "vacuum" refers to the double-wall design of the mug (there's a vacuum between an inner and outer wall, which inhibits the movement of heat)..."vacuum" does not refer to its ability to seal against leakage
second, definitely read the reviews on both...you have to be careful not to overfill it (where overfill refers to anything at or above the inside "collar"), because they WILL leak...you absolutely must keep the liquid level below (not at!) the collar...maybe you just got a bad one, but given how many people have edited their reviews to say that they were indeed overfilling it, i'm guessing that might be the problem
if nothing else, you should exchange it

i don't know what it is about the vacuum design, but for some reason it's hard to find a dishwasher-safe SS tumbler...as noted, though, the nylon tops are usually top-rack safe

Yeah I realize the vaccum refers to the wall design. I meant they were both advertised using the same lingo and the threading appears similar. I fill it a half inch lower and it still leaks.
I'll exchange it but I'm going to try out a Thermos brand one. There's just not enough threading on the REI ones. How high you fill it has little to do with whether mine leaks or not. It leaks the same amount whether it's 1/3rd full or all the way full. The liquid just creeps through the threads and out the seal. My brother's (same model) does the exact same thing.2/23/2012 4:38:37 PM |

I use a Stanley thermos for tea and coffee to keep it warm for hours, and an Oxo-like mug I got from Costco for coffee for school. I need to replace the Oxo because I left it in an OR locker room. Boo. 2/23/2012 5:15:36 PM |

have one of these - I really like it, and appreciate that it also comes with a standard screw cap so it can be used for water, soup, or whatever 2/24/2012 12:00:07 AM |

Bttt. Looking for something. Perhaps 2 separate products but would rather just have 1
To drink coffee at home or on the road, dishwasher safe, microwave safe, double walled would be nice...or at least something that keeps heat a bit longer than regular ceramic coffee cup 11/6/2024 11:14:17 PM |

Suggesting that from experience? That would eliminate microwaving aspect. I guess I could learn to handwash. I feel like lids always get so nasty, why I wanted to dishwasher it. Don't think it would be good on the road though, traveling in a vehicle, prob wouldn't fit in cup holder 11/6/2024 11:36:32 PM |

I read the battery on those always gets sucky in relatively short period of time. Especially for the price of them.
Walmart has a tumbler for a dollar that might work, but wouldn't hold heat worth a shit
https://www.walmart.com/ip/Mainstays-Cofeee-Tumbler/3265922752
I mean i am not looking for like 3 hours of being hot but at least like 1-1.5hrs

^^ I'd consider a 5-lb tumbler at $39.99, but a 1.3-lb tumbler with a knurled handle doesn't make much sense over a standard 40 oz. tumbler.

^^ I was so ready to order the 5 lb mug last night, but they don't deliver to where I live. What a bummer.
P.S. I tried shipping to countries other than mine, even the UK, and they don't. But on their website, you can view prices in all the world's currencies, and on the checkout page, it the address dropdown has all the countries. It's only once you enter the address, it says they don't ship there. They need a proper checkout process, because it's a fucking tease and a waste of time.
