I never get into this except for the occasional episode when I'm flipping around and can't find anything.

However, a good friend of mine, Elise Testone, made the final 24. She use to sing every Sunday night at a bar I worked at, then later at another bar I worked at her band played there about once a month. Then she dated a good friend of mine for a while. Really nice girl who has an incredible, sultry, soulful, powerful voice. She does a James Brown tribute every year that is out of this world. She also teaches at a local music school for kids.

That was pretty awesome. J-lo and Randy were laughing and Steven Tyler looked like he had no idea what was going on.

I'm watching this year ... not ashamed to admit. That said, there's some interesting personalities on this year's show. I really like the white dude that said he has a large black woman trapped inside of him.

Also, a girl I know from back home made the top 24, Chelsea Sorrell. Really strong country voice and really sweet girl, though she doesn't seem to have a lot of stage presence. She made it through despite forgetting her words. From the Triad area

I wish they would have an American Idol Country Edition. I don't want to listen to that shit and I think it keeps some one trick pony contestants in there that wouldn't normally make it that far (like the deep voiced kid who went far last year from NC...and the one that made the final 42 this year but just got eliminated). Obviously there are exceptions like Carrie Underwood...but they're going to do country music anyways...so let them have their own competition.

thats the most ridiculous thing ive heard today...to split actual singers (talented ones at that) from a singing competition

the problem is not the country, its guys like scotty that basically only sing one song and one note. but thats across all styles there are guys like that and there are those that are flexible as well.

let the poppity pop nitwits have their own competition, the raspy voiced pitchy rock guys have their own competition, the sorry acoustic guitar pluckers can have their own competition just because i dont like them!

Last night was the first time I've heard her. She's really, really good. Kind of has an Adele thing going on with her raspy, chunky voice. I can see her doing big things.

My friend Chelsea was a little underwhelming. She's a lot better than she showed last night ... just hope she gets a chance to prove it. Not a great song choice IMO

Other than those two, that little Jessica Sanchez girl is one I'm watching. She's like a 5-foot 95 lbs Asian/Latino hybrid, but she sings like Jennifer Hudson. Holy shit she's good.

I was a little worried because they don't like the contestants singing Adele...but even Jimmy Iovine said she did a good job.

They're doing Whitney Houston next week...which I don't know if it's good for Elise. She has a strong voice, but it's more sultry/raspy...not quite as clean as Houston. But I'm sure she'll step up.

anyway, id been hearing that the women were far superior to the men this season and it seemed that way early. But the reality is that the although i thought the men were weak the other night, the women were HORRIBLE. I was only impressed with one single performance and its not even that the rest were "ho hum" or simply unremarkable, they were just plain bad.

Like I said when I started this thread, I don't usually get into Idol, but I've watched a few episodes in the past years. And I could be wrong, but I felt like I've seen much better performances in the past few years just watching occasionally than I have this year watching most of the episodes.

I'm not impressed with the girls or guys. I thought the fat kid who got the wild card sucked and the only reason he got in was because J-lo was in love with him for some reason (his hard breathing reminded me of Biggie trying to rap a long verse).

The Philip Philip dude will probably make it to the end because he's "different" (whoop-tee-do, he plays a guitar). Maybe the Colton guy as well (although I wish they would shave his head and completely change his style...I mean, come on). Other than that, the other guys don't impress me that much. I think the big blonde-headed girl could go far as well as my girl Elise. That little latin girl has a crazy voice, but I think she'll end up fucking up some songs trying too hard (could be the Whitney Houston episode).

He's alright, but I think his little schitck is gonna get old fast. He's basically Dave Matthews with a scratchier voice.

Other than Elise and little Latin girl, no one is really impressing. That black guy, Joshua Leddet, is pretty decent though. Sounds a little like Sam Cooke.
