So rumor has it, AC3 is going to be set in the American Revolution. Bad. Ass.

"Well, this is interesting. A Best Buy worker just emailed us two images snapped from their employee news section. One shows that Ubisoft will be unveiling Assassin's Creed III on March 5, and that there'll be pre-order bonuses to be had. Whatever.

The other is a shot of what they say is the game's promotional art. Featuring what may well be Assassin's Creed III's star."

Sounds awesome, but I always figured Assassin's Creed III would be all Desmond going nut son modern day Templars.

i did too... maybe there will be some of that intermixed. the american revolution would only be a few generations apart from where desmond is now. plus 1700s seems about as far into the future that you could go with the current mechanics. but who knows. i'm excited.

That would be super cool, and I could probably play this series forever; however, what about South America? Africa? Eastern Asia? I would love to see an assassin in South Africa, India, or Brazil.

Folks on Kotaku are saying that you play a Native American soldier

An interesting write-up: http://kotaku.com/5889507/why-a-colonial-assassins-creed-makes-complete-sense-and-sounds-awesome?tag=%20wielding

I'll be onboard if I could play as one of my people and slaughter the English and Americans alike.

I'm curious how Desmond's ancestor is a Native American since that Native American would have to be descended from Ezio. Ezio's timeline was in the 1400's so I guess one of his grandkids could have been colonists in the New World and had mixed babies with Native Americans? It goes well with the whole eagle vision thing though.

I'd think given "The Truth" secret video/message in Assassin's Creed 2, they would use the Animus to go back to Adam and Eve and figure out wtf is going on with aliens and mind control and whatnot.

It may be a separate ancestor. I unfortunately do not have the source on hand, but apparently Ezio and Altair are not related. They represent different lineages within Desmond's family tree. So the same thing is probably going on here.

Either that or it's more memory seals.

What type of structures is he going to be climbing on during the Revolutionary War? I'm guessing a decent amount of the game will take place in Europe.

It's time they move on and make Desmond the main character. I assumed this would be it since they've said in the past that the game would be a trilogy (not counting the in-between games). But I guess I knew that would go out the window. You're either not profiting enough to make a sequel (so you don't), or you are, in which case you make as many as you can.

Don't forget they can still do all sorts of wacky cave/underground shit with plenty of climbing.

Also, totem polls?

Could be interesting. I'd think this might be more stealth/cover based and previous ACs. Obviously there's not going to be tons of verticality to this game compared to the others.

Same, I can see this game of hiding in the woods attacking British convoys like in the Patriot.

The free running and climbing has been one of the most defining things of the Assassin's Creed series though. All the missions are either free running, stealth, or combat.

Maybe the game's story writers are borrowing from what mormons believe about native americans being descendants from the middle east or something.

So he's going to climb to the top of all the massive structures that were present during the American Revolution.

I guess they'll just have to set a lot of it in wooded/hilly areas so he can climb trees and jump off of cliffs.

Looks like most of the free running is done in the trees of wooded areas. Not sure why he's using a hatchet as his main weapon instead of the trademark hidden blade.

I'm sure he's still got one, he just uses a hatchet instead of a sword.

I've always been kind of annoyed that the hidden blade has been more effective than a sword, now maybe they will change it.

so i've never played this series, but this looks cool.

which is the best AC to try? i dont think ive got time to play all 4 so far, but does the story really matter? i'm more into gameplay...

from my google searches, it seems AC2 is the consensus?

^^ I LOVED the first one. I loved the time period, the feel of the game and how it played. Perhaps I just need to finish the second one to make a solid comparison, but that's my take on it.

I haven't played Revelations yet, but of the other three I liked AC2 the best. I enjoyed the first one a lot but by the end a lot of the missions were repetitious and more of the same thing. AC2 improved on all the bad points and kept the good ones the same.

Brotherhood is essentially the exact same as AC2 except in Rome instead of all over Italy, there are a few more weapons and side quests, and there is a little bit of strategy to it due to training recruits and sending them all over Asia. Since it was so similar to AC2 though it felt like one giant piece of DLC.

On the topic of hidden blade vs. sword I guess what they are trying to convey is that Ezio/Altair are so quick/agile/stealthy at getting close to their target (even in heavy combat situations) that the hidden blade is all they need.

I've only played AC2. Ubisoft needs to get rid of that awful, clunky, boring combat system that has been around since the first Prince of Persia if I'm gonna give this a try.

^You mean the "Surrounded by enemies -> hold block until each one attacks one at a time then counter them and repeat" method?

I'm imagining it is going to be the same except this time you have 2 weapons holy fuck. You can press square to counter with your tomahawk or circle to counter with your knife. Mind blown.

Ditto. While the first may have been more repetitive, the environment was leaps and bounds more exotic and exciting than Italy. Maybe that's because I'm a bigger fan of the dark ages and crusades than the political/intellectual coming of age of Europe, as far as an assassin game goes anyway.

It really is getting a bit old. Once you master the timing, there is never any incentive to run and hide. Just follow that same pattern for five minutes and you could have just taken on 100 guys with no problems.

^ agreed on both.

I almost never die in these games. I honestly feel like if you die, you're an idiot. Between the repetitive fighting and the medicine, you have to be pretty bad to get killed unless you're not really paying attention to your health level or something.

And this may just be me, but I liked the assassinations in the first one the best. I hated the repetition of the side missions and was happy ACII fixed that to some extent, but I felt like it lost focus on the fact that it's called Assassin's Creed.

In the first one, you had to sort of plan out how you were going to assassinate the target. In the latter games you can plan it out if you want I guess, but it's really not necessary.

i miss this from the AC series. Brotherhood and Revelations assassinations just werent challenging at all and the fights were just so easy.
