So were you among the ones who was excited about the revival of Syndicate, only to be crestfallen to see it turned into a FPS? Now you're likely saying "great, how are they going to rape THIS turn based isometric strategy game!?"
Well fret no more my good fellows

Yea saw the dev diary a couple days ago. Really like the way they have reimagined it. I think the tweaks they are making to the game are definitely good. This in 2012 and Simcity in 2013 = OMFG. Only way this could be better is if they had an X-Wing or TIE Fighter game coming out too. 3/8/2012 7:22:32 AM |

So very excited about this. Thus far, the only hangup I have is that it doesn't look like it's going to be on PC. Too bad... I used to love messing with hex editors and trainers to tweak the game. My favorite thing to do was to create custom weapons. Always seemed to me like X-COM agents ought to be smart enough to have underbarrel launchers for their rifles, so I'd make rifles which were capable of firing standard projectiles, launchable grenades, and stun rounds.
So, how many people in this thread were actually playing X-COM while they were first at NCSU back in 1994? 3/8/2012 8:53:53 AM |

Gameinformer specifically says they are making it for PC/PS3/360. So no worries. I will definitely be playing it where it is best, the PC. 3/8/2012 9:09:31 AM |

Awesome! I did not know this. Thanks! Now I'm much more excited about this game.

FPS must stand for Flaming Pile of Shit.
The one video we have seen of Enemy Unknown makes the 2K Marin version look like absolute dogshit. The other interesting thing is that 2K Marin first showed off XCOM in 2010, but it is not scheduled to release until 2013. Firaxis looks a LOT better, only released info last week, and will have it on the shelves this Fall.3/8/2012 3:45:42 PM |

I was initially when I heard they were going to remake it as an FPS, when I saw the cover of GameInformer and am now when I heard it was being done by one of my favorite developers. Coming from Firaxis, I have stronger confidence in the remake. 3/15/2012 11:26:54 PM |

Ok gleaned some more info from this that I missed in the videos from the dev diary. First off, the ammo thing. Eh. I kinda hated having to load all of that shit up. Now for some of the weapons like the cannons and rocket launchers, the incendiary ammo vs other kinds did make a big strategic difference. But as he stated, the lasers in the game did not even have ammo, so its not like all the weapons in the original required ammo. In fact I would always keep a laser rifle in my soldiers pack as a backup weapon in case they did run out of plasma ammo/rockets or whatever.
Additionally I will say I am a little disappointed by the decision to only have one primary base for your personnel. According to the article you can base your interceptors at other locations and increase your radar/satellite coverage to include more and more area. And honestly this is how I usually started my base expansion. I don't know about your play experience, but I would make one primary HQ with my crack landing party. I would eventually add some soldiers to each base and some defenses to keep them from being overrun and destroyed without a fight to knock out my radar coverage and fighter screen. Later in the game I would usually build a secondary base on the other side of the planet to give me a faster response time to terror attacks/enemy bases/downed UFOs on the far side of the world, and to give me duplicity in case my HQ fell. So that kinda sucks. But honestly its not a deal breaker for me. 3/29/2012 9:07:58 AM |

1 base with barracks seems a little strange, but i imagine they could compensate for it by giving you more time to reach your destination.
the big thing, as you mention, was detection and forward fighter bases for quick interception which it seems they're leaving in.
I'm not gonna get too upset about anything until we see a finished product. I dont think theres anything thats been announced that sounds outright bad and most of the changes seem to make sense so im hopeful.
re: ammo it sounds like they'll probably still have ammo and ammo types and what not, but just not clips you have to carry around as inventory. Seems fine imo.
