He wasn’t recruited by Mike Gottfried and he wanted to play his players.”"

How about a realistic statement like "When we committed to NC State it was a program that was getting 3rd and 4th tier recruits so we thought it was an opportunity where he'd be good enough to crack the lineup at a major program in a major conference. After Gottfried became the coach and the program gathered momentum we realized he may never have a chance to crack the rotation and we figured a midmajor program or a bottom feeder in a major conference like South Carolina would be a better fit."

Haha, the love-blindness of parents. Harris had talent and potential... just wasn't ready yet.

hahahaha, his dad is obviously an incredible idiot. We never lost 6 in a row, its Mark Gottfried, and was he there at practice watching, knowing that his son was better than other players? And Gottfried didn't even have HIS players. WTF?!? lol...what an idiot. Good riddance

to be fair, it could be possible that the errors (losing streak and Mike Gottfried) could be a mistake on the writer's part. but still...

Any chance Tyler Purvis could walk on to the basketball team? He wouldn't take a scholarship and could provide us some depth.

ahh...i either didn't notice that, or he updated it. so yeah...that makes poppa harris sound like a dumbass. but best of luck to tyler harris wherever he ends up.

http://statsheet.com/mcb/games/2012/03/23/nc-state-57-kansas-60/play_by_play?vplayer=99744

Thomas Robinson had 3 points while Harris was in the game. 1 FG and 1 FT. So Harris didn't hold him scoreless for 7 minutes. And in 2nd half Robinson was on the bench for about 2 minutes while Harris played.

I got the statsheet link from here:

makes me wonder why Harris waited so long to make a decision to transfer... kinda like the seth greenberg firing - six weeks after the season is over....really?

I mean Painter was pretty quick to announce and now has had time to shop around openly. It couldnt have been to Harris' advantage to wait this long.

I think we are promising some recruit major freshman minutes > harris gets wind of it > someone leaks to rest of team that recruit will be signing with us soon > BYE

then I remember we are state, duke is duke, and this is basketball > meh

When I first heard that Harris was transferring I was pretty pissed, but reading that quote from his dad makes me glad he is gone. There is no room for dissension on a team with big aspirations. I can imagine MARK Gottfried is happy to not have to get calls and hear shit from Harris's dad now.

Yeah Harris could have been a 7th or 8th man off the bench next year and played a valuable role in games with foul trouble, but we'll be fine without him. Long term his loss will mean more unless Gottfried pulls another monster class with bigs this year. The loss of Painter is much worse for next season than Harris.

He and Painter didn't play the same position and we have one, possibly two players coming in to play his position who are rated higher.

Only way he would have broken into the rotation was through injuries.

Painter was a center who sometimes played/guarded the 4.

Harris was a small forward who sometimes guarded the 4. We didn't lose anyone at the 4 this year. We have Leslie and TDT coming back with Warren coming in for sure. That's 3 people who would probably play/guard the four in front of Harris (with hopefully another coming in with Jefferson...but at least one more guy will probably be signed that can fill in there).

At the SF we have Wood and Warren. He probably would have gotten more minutes there because CJW actually logged some minutes at the 3 as well (when Brown and AJ were in at the same time). But I think between Wood, Warren, and possibly CJL or another recruit, there still wouldn't have been many minutes there.

dude, i can't spend two full days explaining to you how our lineup works. i'm going to give it one last try.

we have lorenzo brown
we have someone else that's 6'5" or under
we have scott wood
we have two forwards

that's how our basketball team works.
